My Parents Won The Centre Piece At The Wedding...

Oh my gosh man chill! You always get these odd numbers in your head when talking about Goldfish! The rule is 20 gallons for the first Goldfish, then 10 gallons for every next one, so I don't know where you got that number from... Man this isn't the first time we have told you!

that's for fancy goldfish though. commons and comets get much much larger, about a foot or so, and are very active swimmers.

a foot! commons get 24"+ and commets 14"+and remind me how a 24" common can fit in a 20g?
you will need around a 100g for 6 goldfish. a 10g wont work at all. i would take them to a lfs or to a friend with a pond.

If you have common goldfish (not including Shubunkin, pond comets and Koi) then you will need a 70 gallon tank minimum. You may be able to get away with a 60 or 65 gallon tank, but thats pushing it.
thers no way she can put 6 koi in a 60g. not when they get 24"+

Yeah, fancy. Thats what I meant.

I said she couldn't put Koi in!

If you're in the US and they bought them at a PetSmart or PetCo then they are Comets which can grow to a foot and live 20 years if they are cared for properly. Comets come in all different color variations. Orange, orange with black, grey, white, white and red, I've seen all those and in a couple different combinations with each other. The comets are sold as $ .26 or $ .12 feeder fish. They don't arrive in the best of shape most of the time. I don't think they would have bought koi. They would have been $7 each at the minimum I think. Most people who don't care about the fish just get the feeders. You need to find a pond home for these fish. If you give me your general location I could probaly locate a pond society that might take them.
