I have a 200 gallon tank and there were 3 oscars 4 giant blood parrots 3 pretty large jack dempsys and 5 large convicts. now i only have 2 oscars :angry: I have 5 emperor 400's (3 along the back 1 on each side) well the oscar was a pig he eat alot!! so this morning i saw like a white line on his face so i thought it was rubbing on the glass.. i go back down stairs and there a giant white hole in his neck like area like somthing was eating away into his neck what the hell was this was it a disease i think it was so i realesed him into a stream because i didnt know what to do with a fish that size so instead of letting him infect the other fish i put him in the stream so please respond asap thanks :-(

For something to have shown up that quickly I would say that the other fish were attacking him. Your tank is overstocked. All of those cichlids need large amounts of territory. You would barely be cutting it with just three Oscars in 200gal. The more overstocked you are, the more aggression the fish will show, they will be more stress, and therefore more susceptible to disease.

How sad though that you released him in a stream to die because you couldn't take care of him in the first place.

Why don't you talk to a lfs about rehoming some of your fish. Your tank is still overstocked without him and the same situation will continue to repeat itself, and as we can see you don't handle it well. :sly:

Only 3 oscars for a 200 gallon tank? I know they need space but...that sounds extreme.

I mean, 200 gallons is huge!

But I do agree that it's sad the oscar was released in a stream. That's plain awful.

sorrel is right, they need ALOT of room if your not to stunt one,take a good look at a fully grown one.. absolutly huge

i know you were panaking when you put that oscar in the streem but hes a tropical fish, and hiting that cold water would of proabably killed him on the spot :crazy: :no:

try taking them to your local fishstore from now on! :thumbs: and sorry for the loss.. but u really do need to take the rest out or you are going to encounter more :byebye:

1 = 75 gallon or bigger (and bigger is always better!)
breeding pair = 100 gallons or bigger
6 = 200 gallon or bigger

Please note I skipped a few numbers in there. The reason for this is because oscars do best when kept alone, kept as a breeding pair, or kept in groups of 6 or more.
This is why I went with 200gal for 3. Because you do not have the stability (if you can call it that) of a pair or a group, the aggression is going to increase. Sure, if he wanted to jump up to six that'd be fine, but I certainly wouldn't suggest it with all the other fish he has in there.
