There's really no way to tell for sure. He could very well be imbellis x splendens... many splendens now have other species crossed into them, especially imbellis... that's where the new metallics and masked bettas came from, I believe.

I hope you didn't think anyone was attacking you or insulting your fish! No matter what species he is, he's a cutie!

Darlin he is one tastey fish, he is a good fine even if he is PK, a rare find to as he could be orchid from what you have said about his colouring

Not too sure of the cause, depression, and some little white fungusy splotch that would go away and come back.
