Hi, some of you may know me from Livebearers, Tropical Chit Chat, Tropical Fish Emergencies, and How does your Garden Grow? I have had bettas in teh past and last year even bred them. I came out with great success, about 250 fry!! I had an impulse today to buy some new, younger bettas and plan on breeding them next week. Right now they are conditioning with many live and freeze dried foods such as blood worms, tubiflex worms, brine shrimp, and every now and then, specially made pellets made for only breeding conditioning!! They are a riot! Any ways, just want to say HI, and I'm glad to be posting on this section of teh board!! I just love bettas, they're one of my favorite fish!!!!

P.S. Do any of you have great names for bettas?

congrats on your breeding success.
when it comes to names.. i just end up using names from one certain video game that i really enjoyed... (im a geek)
Ususally i'm going thru everything final fantasy related. :fun:

LOL, good to be open about being a geek! ;) I think I'm going to name my male Flare, and my Female Cirtus because of her coloration. They're doing great. Just that the female doesn't know when to stop eating blood worms!!!!! She's so fat, she looks liek my fancy guppy whos going to have babies very soon!!!

LOL     Thanks...I was wondering if you were going to notice that!! Thanks for the ideas even though you had no 'idea' you were giving me the idea!!!!!

Well. I've had a betta named Dasher. I named him that because he was red and reminded me of Christmas. My second one was Buddy because when we were taking him home i held him up as i went by my school. It was summer time and i didn't even want to look at the school. As we went by he turned away from the school. I thought that was great. My third one was Sails just because i liked the name. My fourth one was Bubbles because he left a lot of bubbles at the top opf the tank. The one I have now is Sneak because he would sneak up on the little fish and try to catch them. LOL

LoL i feel so lame for not naming my bettas (you've probably read somewhere already) :*)

I normally don't name my fish because I feel that once you name them, the lil things die. So I only name my bettas because they are strong fish, and don't die very easily.
Ron

I also believe the "once you name a fish it dies" theory, a friend of mine told me that awhile ago & I didn't believe it but.....all of my fish with names died, we only named a few but still,DEAD! (I cringe when we get a new fish and my 4 year old says "awwww let's name it") :X :X Our oldest betta who we've had over a year is named "Fishy" and he's still kicking so that's a good sign but we've lost over the past year:
Polk A.Dotty (gold nugget plec)
Candy Cane Boy ( my 2nd favoritist betta)
Blinky (one eyed a.compressiceps)
Zebra-y (baby frontosa)
I adored them all, the last two mentioned I accidently murdered last week with chloramines :-(  but anyway  .....

Have a blast breeding your bettas, I hope ya come up with some real beauties

I have the most beautiful deep, indigo blue. It's such a deep, pure blue. It has 2 little dot sof res on each gill. My females is whiteish, pinkish, they are such a beautiful pair.  I'm sure they'll have beautiful fry!! Thanks,
Ron

i say, being lame just adds to character... good character at that

I haven't named my bettas yet, but im slowly working on that... most of the other fish are named, except those danios.. i can only tell one apart from the rest cause he's very fat
but back to those betta names, yep, good names, Ron

Thanks! Can I feed my bettas little flies, there seems to be an abondant amount of them around.
