I got 5 tetras from Petsmart today. I drip acclimated them for 50 ish minutes.

I turned off the lights for about 5 hours now…it’s night now so they will be off for another 8 hours. when I went to turn them on, I saw a tetra with bright red on the side of his face! He is also twitching constantly in the same spot near the top.
I checked all the water parameters and they seem good so is there any explanation for this?! Is this normal?

Here’s some pics of the water parameters:
The ammonia looks like it’s at .25 but it’s definitely yellow in person. (Next to it is nitrite)

The other pic is pH and nitrate.

But going back to the tetra who looks odd, here is a picture of it:

They're neon tetras - there are a lot of different fish called tetras, and many have different lives.

Give them time and keep an eye on them. They need to get used to things.

Yup! The tetra is better now, he is swimming with the others and I think I was just being over dramatic 😅😅

Glad he's perked up! :D
Not overdramatic, better to be keeping an eye on them and checking everything is okay rather than under-reacting and potentially missing a problem until it's too late. Normal to keep a close eye on new fish that you've just added!

I think the redness in the photo was just his gills being more visible because he was a bit pale/washed out from stress or the lighting change. Usually not so visible, so it looked alarming, but just his gills :)
