actually they are neolamps. i forgot to say that. But many people do call them laps, or "lapms"

I think you're right. The fish in the shell (pics 1 + 6) are the same fish, and pics 4 + 5 are the same male. The 3rd pic is of my 2 and only (hopefully!) males.

VIP - I pictured you "exhaling" as you typed your post.

wrs - I paid $9.99 each. They were from a LFS that I can't get to as often as I like. They have a great african cichlid selection and a good selection of plecos.
Here's their site:

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. :)

I'll post pics of my L. ocellatus in a week or so, after I get their tanks sorted out.

I have alot of 1 " flower pots , hmmm! " Flower Pot dwellers " :X  , just doesn't sound right :D .

I may have a 10 gal around here , somewhere ;)

And do you relay have 30 Bettas ?

It's contagious

Thanks guys. :)

My PH is 7.8 - 8.0 out of the tap. The dealer I get my shellies from (she's also in Chicago) told me to leave my water alone. I haven't lost a single fish, and both species (L. ocellatus and L. Multifascitus) have bred. These were wild-caught, but she acclimated them for about 6 weeks after she received them.

From what I've read, the PH in Lake Tanganyika has been measured above 9.0, but if your water in above 7.0, it will be satisfactory. They seem to adapt well.

If you are thinking shellies, sand is a must.

If you can't get your hands on Neothauma shells, Escargot shells from your grocery store or market will do (that's what I use).

I would suggest finding out what species are available around you or which your LFS can order for you, then researching that species. Find out how long your dealer acclimates them for.

Here's a great site owned by a TFF member (DanL.) with tons of shellie info:

Great information cometcattle thankyou! The ones I have seen and asked about are Lamprologus occellatus 'Gold' and Neolamprologus brevis. My tap water has a PH of 7.6 so this should be alright. I have the tanks the sand so now I'm off to read all about them :D
