My New Setup

I'm not new, the title my new setup means that i have got a NEW tank! I only said take a chill pill because it seemed like they were getting annoyed/ frustated

I'm not annoyed with YOU or frustrated with YOU but both annoyed and frustrated at the fact someone has sold it to you under the guise of an aquatic plant which it is not.

feel free to ignore me, you'll see for yourself soon enough.

i've had many a disaster and only learned from my own mistakes and listening to other very knowledgeable people on here. take it or leave it i was just trying to help.

Sorry to hear that you interpreted Jimbooo's advice in that manner. Personally I feel his reply was intented to be helpful and worded appropiately.

Clearly there has been misinterpretation here and I think the matter should now close.

The plant in question is a Dracaena species, possibly sanderiana and is non-aquatic. It will last a couple of months at best, then get covered in algae and eventually rot. I also strongly suspect the two plants to the left of the Dracaena are also non-aquatic. The only definite true aquatic as far as I can tell is the Java fern (that needs to be attached to your wood for best results, if the rhizome (root)is buried it may rot) and the possible Vallis to its right.

As for a replacements I would go for an easy stem plants i.e. Hygrophila polysperma or Limnophila sessiflora. On-line aquarium plant sellers are an excellent way to buy true aquatic plants. Unfortunately a lot of (not all by no means) aquarium and pet stores do not label their plants or have staff with the knowledge to provide good advice.

I have no personal experience with them but have heard good things. You can't go wrong with a set collection, they're the cheapest way of filling your tank and ideal for seeing what plant does well and what doesn't.

http/aquaticplants.eu.com/ is also very good for collections.

I've kept troppical fish 4 a while now, but have only ever used plastic plants.

Jimbooo, u seem to know wat ur talking about, i want to branch out start using reall plants, can u surgest any easy to keep varieties tht are definately aquatic, cos i dont trust my local pet (especially as the women tht first served me fish couldn't tell the differance between male and female guppies).

any suggestions are greatly apprechiated...

Hi Mr Fishy. why dont you start your own thread on this topic over in the planted tank section. i'll happily answer your questions but you will also get further advice from the rest of us over there.

OK jimbooo take a chill pill!

im actually doing quite well and these plants have lasted much longer then the resdt. I upgraded the lights bought a co2 thing and use plant food. I was planning on buying the set of plants for a 18" TANK FROM WWW.JAVA-PLANTS.COM WHAT DO YOU THINK?
