Fish Crazy
Hello all
I'm not really a newbie to the hobby. But this is my first topic in this forum.
I've been retired from the hobby for 4 years and now i've decided to come back i wanted to do upgrade my setup.
this is my last setup before i retired
It was a good tank but the size especially was not the best since it was very long but not so high and deep.
So i got this new fish tank a few days ago:
Size: 120 cmx40x50 cm (aprox.240 lts)
new tank
Filter: FLUVAL 305 External filter (it came with the tank and i don't see the need to replace it), i might in the long term future replace it for a SUMP system because this fish tank comes already with 2 holes.
Tropical fish tank SUMP system
LIGHT
This fish tank came with a 2x40 watts light.I decided it was far from ideal for my project and got a 4x54 watts t5.
4x54 watts T5 lighting system
I should receive it this monday hopefully.
Heater: Fluval Mirrored M Series Heater 300watts
For now it should be more than enough. My doubt with it is if when the winter comes and considering that its quite cold in england it will be enough. If not i will add a second one to help get the job done.( All my old tanks where from portugal so the problem was not heat the fish tank during winter, but to cool it down during the summer).
CO2: Plants need CO2.In the past i used the nutrafin kit. But this time i'm going for the pressurized kits. Haven't made my mind about wich one.But in the next few days i will come to a decision and buy one.Anyone have any sugestions that could help?
UV sterilizer: Been thinking about this one,an old friend of mine used a Aquamedic 9 watt UV on a 300 ltr tank with good results. But i'm not sure if UV sterilizers and heavily planted fish tanks mix.
My fear is that it will not only kill bacteria that are harmfull to the fish but also much needed nutrients for the plants.Anybody ever used one on a planted setup?
I found a UV sterilizer from a brand called SUNSUN.Its quite cheap, anybody knows this one. IS it any good?
FISH
This fish tank will have definitely ANGELFISH i've had them in the past, but later on if i feel confident enough for i'll give the discus a try.
Plants
I was planning on easy and non-demanding plants because of the original 2x40 watts light that came with the fish tank. But with the upgrade i made i'm having another look at the plants but my inicial idea was trying to do something with:
-Eliocharis parvula
-weeping moss (on a redwood branch)
-Limnophila sessiliflora
-Vallisneria americana (gigantea)
-Echinodorus bleheri (bleherae)
-Bacopa australis
-Cryptocoryne wendtii 'brown
Hardscape
Some dragon stones and a redmoor wood
Substrate
Fertile soil : tropica aquacare 5Ltr
Gravel: its not really gravel its akadama 28Ltr,its been used with quite some sucess in my country. They say AMANO himself used it much before he formed ADA.
What do you guys think about my setup?I think it has potential for me to put it to good use.Any sugestions or corrections i am all for it.
This fish tank will hopefully be in full working order in a couple of weeks.
