I have decided to change my tank from a large fish/plastic plant set up to a planted/small fish and shrimps set up and went out yesterday to buy the first plants.

The tank has a corner tower going into a sump which I did consider using as a refugium but I have stuck to the existing filteration of filter floss and bio balls in the tower and japanese matting as used in Koi pools in the sump. This more than adequatley dealt with large messy previous occupants so I have kept it in place.Water is returned via a pump and I have turned the pump down to it's minimum setting and taken off the nozzle from the return outlet in the tank so it does not add extra oxygen.

The tank is 50"long x 26" high x20" wide and with the sump the total gallonage is about 95 UK gallons I think, taking into account decor etc.The lighting is by 4 T5 54 watt tubes,I have a mixture of white and aquaflora, with a blue for night - time viewing.I do not have co2 and I am hoping not to have to go this route if possible, but as time goes on that could change

Substate is 1" aquasoil covered with 1.5" black gravel from dennerle.Water is 50% RO and 50% tapwater.

Can't think of anything else at the moment - apologies for the poor quality photos,my photographic skills are non existent

Just introduced my algae/clean up crew - 16 otocinclus and 20 japonica shrimps, looking good so far!

looks great! nice start , would love to see more plants in there , especially in the back half of the tank ( behind your bogwood) pehaps more stems? honeyworts? It should look great after couple months.

I agree that the back looks a bit bare, there are some plants there, crinium(sp) and crpyt.balanese but they are tiddly at the moment!

I would like to get some giant vallis as I think it would look good in this tank as it's 26" tank, but so far I haven't seen any around. My lfs have a plant delivery today so I'll try there in a couple of days.

Another update and some new photos:-

Went out today and picked up a stunning Anubias attached to bogwood - expensive but well worth the money as it looks fantastic :D

I also bought some bunch plants for the back.

See what you think,I'd appreciate feedback :flowers:

Nice.

I can't help thinking the redmoor contrasts too much with your bog wood.

Watch the anubias too near your lighting. It's an algae magnet if not shaded. Especially with 4 x 54w HO T5 and no CO2...
