So last weekend I bought a peckoltia (not sure exactly which kind). He/she is about 13cm long and cost £20 (hope i didnt get ripped off!)

It's a lovely fish and has settled in well and has found it's own cave to chill in, and gets on with everyone else.

HOWEVER....obviously it is nocturnal and come morning, it seems to have done some major sand shifting. It must take some real energy to shift the sand. It's as if it is trying to dig down in places. Why is it doing this? It's annoying as it ruins the attractive look! Will it stop?

Many thanks

p.s. I attach a photo

nice looking pleco, most will dig at night. my Bulldog is currently digging under a flat stone

lovely looking plec, I;m not familiar with it at all :good:

Nice Plec.

My Bulldogs started destroying my plants, so I got rid of them.

not much you can do about the digging really its just what they do you could try adding more caves preferably the dark slate ones they seem to like those best i just went the other way and removed all the substrate so theres no where to dig

i personally like the digging. my rusty plec and banjo cats love re-arranging the sand. and i like the fact it makes my tank look slightly different every week. my rusty tends to dig in the same spot. once he was happy with his bunker he seemed to stop though. maybe just let the plec shift the sand about for a week or so, and see if it stops.

Actually I think you're onto something here! I left it shifted last night and this morning there was no major change, so perhaps it just doesn't like it all flat!

I think that once the pleco is happy with his den then he will stop.
