thanks for all the replies. well at first i rang them up and they said they were 25 pound. so i thought ye quite cheep so i will go and get one from there. i went up and they were priced up at only £18. i couldnt believe my eyes. i was happy that they were only 25 pound but to get an extra 7 quid knocked off was great. i have just bought 3 baby plattys and put them into a 38 litter tank i had set up about a week and a half ago and i have just fed one to him and he loved it. cant wait untill he gets bigger.

how do they sting you? Do they have tiny little stingers all over them so if they brush against you you are stung? Or is it when there spines stab you?

The venom glands are in the base of the dorsal spines, so it is if they get you with the dorsal fin. Some volitans have been known to dip their heads and "charge" the aquarist's hand, so you have to be wary with them in a tank.

Just out of curiosity, what is the minimum tank size required for a Volitan Lionfish?

a 20 GAL but you will have to keep a dwarf lionfish.

there is some info on lion fish but i think you can also keep scorpion fish what are from the same family. just check that up on google because that what i was going to get before i got my lion. pm me if you want to ask me any questions

Pretty much 30G for a dwarf and 75G for a Volitan by the looks of it.

no im sure you can keep a certan type of dwarf lion. are you planning on gettig one

Even though some may only require a 20 gallon or 30 gallon, I would be tempted to get a larger tank so that water parameters could be kept constant. It would be a shame to lose such a fantastic fish because of the un-stability of the water.
