I was just looking at my new guy and I noticed when he turns I can see like pieces of stuff on his body. It's hard to see unless you really look close. It's almost looks like he's shedding or something?? :dunno:

He isn't acting strange..he's eating and swimming about. I'm thinking bacterial or fungal? More bacterial I think though because the pieces arnt like cotton.

You can only see it with your naked eye...in pics nothing shows up. I'm worried that even though he is acting fine that in the next couple of days he might go down hill so I want to figure out what it is and treat it now.

Help :-(

White Slime Disorder - Stringy, white mucus on the body, highly contagious. Treat the fish with an antifungal, treat fish he has had contact with, and scrub, scrub, scrub the tank or bowl with bleach. If he's been in a community aquarium, I'm sorry, but you're going to have to dismantle the entire thing, sterilize it, and recycle it before putting the fish back in. Yes, it is THAT bad.

heres another one
Columnaris Fuzzy, cotton-like substance attached to body (looks like fuzz or lint), clear or white stringy material hanging from the body, erosion of the gills, heavy breathing, pinholes appearing in fins. Usually effects the mouth or head region. Also may appear as yellowish, white, or greyish areas on the skin, often surrounded by redness.

(True) Fungus Gray or white slimey looking material on the skin, may eventually turn into cottony-looking growth (distinct hair-like filaments).

Slime Disease Excessive slime coat mucus production, white stringy strands hang off of body.

I would say some type of fungas maybe? I also wanted to add Elisabeth I love that pic in your avitar! Very pretty fish :)
Good luck with your other betta.

Well I'm thinking bacterial because I read with fungus that the white cottony stuff usually grows over wounds and theres no wounds on him.

I've dealt with bacterial infections before but they seem to present themselves in so many different ways that its hard sometimes to determine if its actually bacterial or not :/

I decided to treat with a bacterial medication ...says it prevents secondary infections too. I just added an airstone too.

I hope this is what he has and I caught it soon enough because I sure do love this little guy even though I've only had him for a few days.

Thanks Mariah..thats one of my females in the pic

Sorry that link only takes you part way there. Go to articles, freshwater, then to flexibacter.

Dr Barb wrote the best article and some excellent ways to help combat it.

Thanks for the link ;) Yeah I'm sure my little guy has the beginings of columnaris  I hope the medication I'm using will clear it up .
