cheers mate, i actually have a tank that i have about 10 snails in(the common type you find attatched to plants in petstores) and about 40-60 eggs that have just hatched

yeah, im just not sure when to throw them in the tank

i dont want to throw a load in for them to go into hiding and lay eggs in my tank, and im not sure if my puffers will just keep eating them just because they are in the tank

threw a few snails in today to see what would happen

puffers on the prowl...all which dared move, got demolished within minutes

haha thats a freat sign for a Puffer..

"snail enters water"
"Puffer sees said snail"
"Snail falls to bottom of tank"
"Puffer gets closer inspecting the new object with interest"
"Snail pokes head out for a look"
"Puffer realises its food"
"Puffer lines himself for the strike"
"Snail realises imenant doom"
"Puffer Strikes.........."

"Snail....Bugger!!!!"

"Crunch"

full Puffer :)

:good:

i was getting a bit concerned that they might get used to the frozen food, but its good to see their natural instinct is still in place and they can feed like that

i think there is still 1 more snail in hiding in my tank, as ive not seen it come out from the plant it was dropped by

my tank of about 8 adult snails and about 40 baby snails will be ace in a few weeks though for feeding them, because they are getting very aggresive feeding from non live foods

Just love that look on their faces when they see a snail  Better get that snail farm going

Looks exactly like my puffer. They have got to be the fish with most character for their size.

Fantastic little fish these are. I've had mine now for nearly 3 months and they're really settled. They love live bloodworm and frozen too. I have a mass of snails in my bigger tank but haven't moved any over yet because I think my bigger tank may be infected with something.

Great picture of the DP stalking the snail. :good:

I feed my puffers on snails once a week or once a fortnight, depending on the hatch rate of the eggs and babies (I have both Pond Snails and Malayan Trumpet Snails). The MTS are sucked out of their shells because their shells are so thick, so they are just put in for protein instead of wearing down the teeth.

Don't worry about the Puffers not finding the snails, they will hunt them out. They are great at this as it is what they do all day in the wild, so I look at "Snail Day" as an enrichment excercise for the puffers; it keeps them occupied.

I had two DP's in a thickly planted 6 Uk Gallon tank, and as I bought them before the sexual diagnostic features appeared I ended up by chance with two males. No problems at first but as they reached maturity, all hell broke loose. They now live in a ten UK Gallon tank, and things are much better between them.

Hope this helps you guys.

All the best from Bill.
