Got 4 lovely Julii Corys, has anyone any advice on keeping them?

Thanks

Hi Le Sorcier :)

It's always good news when someone gets some corys!

As someone is sure to tell you, they are probably C. trilineatus, not C. julii. It's a common matter of misnameing by the lfs, and real C. juliis are extremely rare. That being said, you got some members of a really nice species of fish.

These little corys are very attractive and are well loved by many cory keepers. They are also corys that could be bred if they are mature and the conditions are right.

They prefer cooler water, (77 degrees F. tops) and will eat a wide variety of foods including: live blackworms, frozen bloodworms, tubifex worms (either live or freeze dried) good quality flake food, Hikari bottom feeder wafers, and spirulina discs. A variety of food is best.

Got pics? :D

All I can advise is to ensure you use the correct substrate for them! 2-3 mm grain size max, pref sand. My Tri-lins love me for giving them a sensible substrate!

Thanks guys.

No Pics yet but I will do my best.

Is there a site where I can compare pictures of Julii and Trilineatus, to see which ones I have?

Thanks Underwurlde,

Looks like Tri rather than Julii to me but I will check in the morning when I can see them properly!! lol.

Yes, Trilineatus they are (I believe).

Still great though.

Not sure If I am feeding them enough though? Put flake food in that the other fish eat and add a sinking pellet food for the Corys that they don't seem that interested in?

They do eat some, but the other fish also take that too, so I am not sure if they are taking enough?

I have 3 Trilins myself. I have kept them for almost 18 months now, so I must be doing something right...

I feed them mainly one tablet of Tetra Tabimin per day. I pop it in the tank when I feed the other fish 5 mins before lights off, by the time it has dissolved the lights go off and only the TriLins find them (as they feed mainly in the dark at night I believe).

Once or twice a week I'll chuck in some Daphina or bloodworms: Alot in one go because by doing this it overwhelms the mid & top feeders allowing some of that to fall to the bottom where the TriLins can then have their share. When feeding flake, they have not learnt to go to the top like the rest of the fish, but will take it if stumbling on a flake or two left on the bottom.
