My New Corys

Took a Visit to the LFS to get crickets to feed my butterfly fish.
Last Time I went I had seen some baby cories in a tank with glowlights and Panaque Maccus, I had wondered if they were just Aeneus Fry but they seemed to have small orange lines, I had asked around the chat if anyone knew if this was just the colouration of a bronze cory but noone knew. So When I got there yesterday I revisited the tank to see that they were l;abelled baby gold shoulder corys $18.50 each or $70 for 4. I have never seen these corys for sale so I had to take my chance and I bought 4. Now that they have settled a bit in the tank I noticed that the orange stripe goes quite far down and I'm wondering if these may be orange laser cories.

Photos will be coming when I can take some, they are awfully energetic.

They are only about an inch I'd say maybe a little bit more.

Here is a picture of one of my orange lasers. Do they look anything like that? This picture was taken not long after I got them and they were still settling in. The colors are much more brighter now.

Nah It's much less pronounced than that, it's only bright for a little while just from behind the eye to the dorsal fin after that you have to kinda look properly. Although I heard Orange Lasers develop the colours quite slowly so mine may be juveniles but I reckon they are gold shoulders now.

These are what Im calling "gold shoulders." These pictures were taken when I had half gravel and half sand in their tank. I have taken out that gravel since.

they do look like the ones on the right where you can see that the gold goes quite a bit back but it just isn't as bright as at the front.

Here's the best photos I could take, the damn things never stop moving so in the 2nd and 3rd photo were taking with a high ISO 250.

Its too hard to tell. You can feed them some kind of wafer and take a picture of them then. They should stay still around that tablet, allowing you to get a better picture.

I was feeding em frozen bloodworm but they just ate it and like kept shaking it so they still came out crap.

Take the picture with flash and will stop the motion, and you can angle the camera a little so the light from the flash didn't reflex back to the image.

okay took a few photos of the cories using flash, came out alright. There's a full grown rabauti in one of the photos so you can see how small the cories are.

Great now you know how to get better picture

It look like a Gold lazer or Orange lazer. It is nice cory once they full grown.

Greetings. These fish are Corydoras schultzei, formerly know as C. aeneus (Peru Gold Shoulder). I have attached a pic of an "Orange Laser." - Frank

I thought so, the orange stripe is not as distinguished past the first couple dorsals.

The Cory's are doing fine on the gravel, I've been searching for a small pea gravel like you find for sale at big al's but no such gravels are for sale. May ask if my LFs can order some in.
