Hi backtotropical :)

Thanks for sharing the pictures of your lovely corys. :D

You might be surprised to learn that your C. juliis are actually C. trilineatus. It's a common mistake usually made because the lfs always seem to mislabel them. Nevertheless, they are delightful fish and you'll surely enjoy keeping them.

Here's a link to an article about them:

Hi Inchy,

I had read about that in PFK magazine a couple of months back, but i'm unsure how to tell which they actually are.

It's something I was going to look into.

Thanks

BTT

edit: just found this about C. Julii

Telling them apart without locality information is actually quite hard as some C. trilineatus can show the spotted head pattern traditionally associated solely with C. julii, C. julii appears also to have a shorter horizontal mid body stripe not reaching half way along the body.

......and this about C. Trilineatus

Probably the most misidentified fish commonly found in aquatic retailers who incorrectly sell it as C. julii. The true C. julii is such a rare import that sheer numbers mean you are unlikely to really encounter this Brazilian fish. C. julii is similar to the more spotted forms of C. trilineatus but has no trace of any reticulated colour patterning at all and is entirely covered with small, distinct spots. It's mid-lateral black stripe is fainter and does not reach as far towards the fishes head as in C. trilineatus.

I'll have a look based on this when my tank lights come on today. :good:

Thanks Paul.

Well, having studied your link, Inchy, and a few other soources, I'm now pretty sure they are C. Trilineatus after all.

Thanks for the heads up, Inchworm. :good:

Hi backtotropical, I bought six on Sunday exactly the same as yours from a shop in Glasgow. They were also advertised as Julli's but after reading your posts i knew what to look for. They definately look like Trilineatus. Their cracking little fish and seem to be enjoying their new environment.
