This is my new Betta on his way to me from Thailand (aquabid.com)

I am only a new Betta owner I have a VT Called Cosmo and I have had him for a couple of months now, but I am still learning about the wonderful world of Betta's the decription on Aquabid of my new Betta was ** Copper Rosetail BF **

I have a couple of questions

+ What does BF stand for?
+ Is there anything special I need to do for this type of Betta.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Thankyou

Butterfly (refers to coloring, someone correct me if I'm wrong)
Care is the same for all other tail types. Looks like a gorgeous breeder, I would definatley buy a high quality female BF and breed them if thats what your into.
I think the tail type is a halfmoon (HM), but bettas arent my expertise.
He is so gorgeous BTW.

Awww thanks Drew  thankyou also for the info :) I am thinking of getting a female and breeding him but first I will get him settled in when he arrives learn more about bettas then try my hand at breeding :)

ah ha I just found some info:

butterfly (BF): The body is solid color while the fins are divided in two separate color bans. half of the fin is one color and the other half another color. For example the black/white BF betta to the left has fins that are 50% black and 50% white (a very rare combination) and comes from my Dreamcatcher strain. The ideal BF has a 50.50 split, but remain very rare. A split of 30/70 to 70/30 is acceptable. Less than 20% is referred to as a "ban" and less than 5% is oftentimes referred to as a "tip" (for example a white tip). On very rare occasion a betts will have a tri-ban pattern, meaning the fins are 3 colors. these are very pretty and very rare and of course pricey and sought after. Our betta strain "Tutti Fruitti" is such a 3 ban BF type strain.

so now I know what BF stands for what does copper and rosetail stand for? I am guessing rosetail is the shape of his tail is this correct?

as you already figured out butterfly is the tail pattern. copper is his color, but he is really a black copper which is a black base with a layer of copper metallic or iridescence over it. rose tail refers to the edge of his tail not the entire tail. you're guy looks like a very nice halfmoon(tail span reaches or exceeds 180 degrees) if you decide to breed him i would look for a copper half moon girl if i were you. don't be afraid to experament with different colors though you might come up with something really nice. who are you buying him from if you don't mind me asking??

Hi

As said already copper is the colour/iridescence/metallic appearance, and the rosetail refers to the rose-like appearance of the fins due to the excessive branching of the rays. Beautiful fish!

As said above, rosetail is the actual area that is at the end of the finnage, where as HMs hold the extra rays to create the spread of span to 180 degrees+, the rosetail will consist of another set of rays beyond that area thus giving the effect of a rose petal, the main way to see the rose tail is when the tail is in full spread, when its at the 180 degrees it will give the effect that it really should be spread a lot more to flatten the finnage but b/c it doesnt it gives this wonderful tail type.

the rosetail was created through intense breeding of HMs that held a large amount of final rays and and that have been considered as OHM (Over HM). if im correct in saying  spawning 2 rosetails produce feather tails which is again an extension upon the rosetail rays, and not a good idea to spawn 2 feather tails due to disabilities in the fry from excess weight in the finnage
To keep the rosetail going its advisable to spawn with HMs. the fry should be a certain % of rosetails and HMs.

I would spawn him with a light blue HMBF this should keep the butterfly in most fry but also give some of the fry a deeper metalic tone to the finnage, with possibles of copper, light or dark purples, blues and what an exciting thought of the all these colours in one fish with a rich metalic finish. :good: now that would be one AWESOME betta in my eyes.

One word... DAMMMMMMNNNNN....... lol what an awsome looking betta :D
