I have a question, where did you get that? My LFS has the same one, and I thought they looked pretty cool. I think some tall peices of bamboo would look really nice in it...

That vase is TIGHT! Where did you buy it?!?! It has a very contemporary look to it, I LOVE IT!!!

Well *I* like it. I am sure he appreciates it more than a stupid little dirty cup.

I would remove the snail and let him chill out with the frog ;) Put a lamp over the vase so he gets some light and warmth, which will really help him thrive. Is he always a flake eater, or does he ever eat pellets? I think flakes would be a bit messier in the long run.

Maybe add a really tall fake plant, with wide leaves, that he can rest upon near the top. This will help make the tank less daunting.

Make sure to change the water often, since a 3 gallon almost justifies a filter (though in a regular shaped tank, not this kind).

I do agree with whomever said it was nice and contemporary. Good taste!

its just a glass vase i found, i did think about getting bamboo for it but thought it might be awkward to put a lid on, i decided on java fern as snails dont tend to eat it and i needed the snail to clean up the waste flake, was gonna get ghost shrimp but my lfs had lost the last two of them ,apparently they have been jumping between tanks lol :D for the lid i used a lid from a sweet tub (was perfect size) and drilled holes in it, i regularly change 20 % of the water and vacume the gravel, at the weekends i change closer to 50% and every three weeks i do a total clean out. my betta looks very happy and seems to swim about freely, i am not worried about the width of the vase as i have seen many pics of bettas in a lot smaller bowls

I've seen those Popping up now.

Very Stylish.
I do Recommend Removing the Snail - Pooping Machines. Leave the Fog and Betta.
Please make sure you Get a Tall Plant for him to rest @ the surface on.
If you already have a Light then Fine, If not a Halogen Dek Lamp will Do.
A few of Them Side by Side Would Look very nice.

i love it! it is adorable. i noticed 3 of my 6 fishes like to swim up and down rather than side to side. they like to go all the way to the bottom push around the marbles and make a hole for their face go to sleep then go up for air once in awile and make another hols. VERY strange. but it looks like your fish and frog are friends too cute!

wow, that is stylish and would go with my room! I love it! I agree you might want to take out the snail. I think also that the oxygen would be low because of shape.

People put their bettas in 10 gallon tanks..they are taller then that and force the betta to swim way up for air..regardless of if they can swim side to side. So there is no difference in that. If it holds 3 gallons...that's plenty for 1 betta, now for the frog and snail I dunno...I dunno how much water they require each.

Personally I don't like glass anything to put my aquatic critters in...that doesn't have a rim (like a actual tank). But if you like it and you keep it clean...that's all that matters.

Looks perfectly fine to me. I might suggest taking that seashell out of there though. I've heard those can alter your PH..or something of that nature.

Right, all of mine are in 5 gallons+, so they have to swim the same height.

Aye, about the seashell, if it isn't a decoration, take it out. Mine altered my molly tanks PH so drastically when I was just starting out in fishkeeping, that they quickly died one after another without any signs. A good water change should balance it out (well, my conditioner says it buffers the PH to a proper level, anyhow).

I've got a tank like that that I keep one of my more shy bettas in... he gets insecure with a lot of horizontal space for some reason, so it's perfect for him. Enough water volume, but not too wide as to cause him stress :D

(It always confuses me when people mention this in this forum, so I'm going to comment on it) Surface area isn't a big worry factor with Betta splendens... while they do breathe through their gills, they rely heavily on their labyrinth organ. Why so much worry about oxygenated water when the fish breathes from the surface anyway? I just don't understand it :S

Anyway, while I'm sure most bettas prefer a lot of horizontal swimming room, the tank should be fine. I'd remove the snail and switch to feeding pellets though ;)

i have moved the snail to another tank and slightly lowered the water level so the fish doesnt have to swim up so far (although this never seemed to be a problem) as for the shell it is real but i sterilized it in boiling hot water then soaked it for three days in treated water and it was in my other tank for about six months and never seemed to effect the water or the fish, infact my baby pleco used to use it as a cave.
