Woohoo! I got my Adolfois corys today! They are so gorgeous. I could only afford to get 3 of them and tried to get both sexes, I had the LFS guy pick out 2 small ones and one of the larger ones. Cossing fingers. I noticed that there is a lot of color difference between the big one and the little ones so hopefully I got a female and 2 males.

The LFS did confirm that these are wild caught so I'm wondering if there is anything special I should do for them? Should I be concerned about parasites? Does anyone know if they prefer mild, moderate or strong current? The 10 gallon tank they are in has sand and the filter is rated at 200 gph but it can be adjusted quite a bit. Will their food preferences be different from my other corys? I've got frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, Hikari Tropical sinking wafers, algea wafers and Tetra tropical flakes. I'm currently floating them in the tank and adding my water very slowly.

Here's a photo, anyone care to guess the sexes?

Hi Polardbear :)

They are beautiful!

It looks to me like you have a female (on the left), and a male (in the middle), but the one on the right could be either. My guess is that it's a younger (or just smaller ) female. When you get wild caught fish they could be from many different batches, so they could be different ages.

I like wild caught fish because if they are not sick from shipping stress, or when they get over it, they seem to be more robust and healthy than tank raised ones. This is especially true of fish that have been tank raised for generations.

They are the same in other ways. They will eat the same food and generally mix with your other corys in the same way as usual, although they might be a little shy in the beginning.

Don't worry about parasites unless they show unexplained symptoms, but there is a possibility of bacterial infection due to stresses they encounter during shipping. If your lfs has had them for a few days and they still look good, they probably are, but a few days in quarantine is always a good idea.

You are lucky to have found these lovely fish. Best of luck with them.

awww so sute  the one on the left looks female to me and the middle looks male not sure on the other

Lovely - I am so jealous! I have one adolfi and I have been trying to her some pals for ages. Thought I'd cracked it when a lfs about an hours drive away had some in, but when I went to get them they had been put back in quarantine. And then by the time I got back to the shop later, they had been sold. :( So my quest continues!
