My New Addition !

Gourami's are like bettas, with the territorial state and you will get the odd one who just can't be tolerated

You've done the right thing, removing him, don't worry. Maybe, one your fish have healed and the tank has settled, you could take the kids to go pick out 1 more fish? 1 just for them?

I just feel a bit of a failure really but he was so aggressive. The tank water stats are still at double zero's so thats good news. Will get my Glowlights and see how things progress with the other Gourami. I'll feel betterin a couple of days hopefully.

maybe get another female, instead of a male?

you haven't failed, at one point or another, we've all experienced something disheartening during our hobby. Look at me, half a tank wipeout last week but I know what went wrong, i've corrected it and my tank is back to normal. That was my first failure during my fish keeping time and it shocked me horribly but I see it as a learning curve.

It will be ok, by removing that male, you've saved all your other fish. Fish keeping is 50/50, 50% us and 50% on the fish's attitude :good:

I was thinking about a female but are a bit nervous now. Maybe i should just leave it to one and get more tetras instead. Not sure. Thank you for making me feel better.

I ran with 5 glofish and 3 zebras for 6 weeks, and then 10 days ago added 3 Neon Tetras

can you spread out the school like this? I'm having trouble picking between danios, glofish, and white clouds and it would be amazing if I could mix n mingle them ;)

and very pretty gourami! =) congrats

Sesshis_grl: I can only comment on glofish and zebras, since that is my only experience so far. They are both Danios type fish, and they treat each other like one big shoal. I see no difference in how they treat each other - it's pretty cool.

Pleased to report that with Mr aggressive removed all fish are back to their lively self. Ammonia and Nitrite have stayed at zero too. Not sure if i'm going to add another Gourami, will see how things go with the solitary one first.

If you're going to add some more fish, the sooner the better :) Glad things are back to normal.

I am very sorry, late to this thread... was the offending Gourami: a Dwarf Gourami? Was thinking of one, but if not good with guppies... I wont...

Liverbird you haven't failed. I had to take one of my Platys back for bullying remember. and that was a PLATY. They don't even have a bad reputation but oh no I had to get a bully one lol. I felt bad about it, I do hope he's found a good home as I'm sure he'd be fine with bigger fish that he can't pick on.

BTW, I think you should stick with one DG and get another fish instead. If you get a female she may get harassed by the one you've still got and if you get another male you're asking for probs later on really. You should look at getting a Platy or something. Or maybe like you said a couple more tetras.

Note that all gouramis (and some other related fish) have the characteristic, somewhat rare among tropicals, of having individual behavior that is more distinctive. By that I mean that many tropical fish have behavior patterns that are pretty consistent across different individual fish that you keep, whereas gouramis will often display distinctively different behaviors even though the fish is the same species and sex. Don't let that deter you from gouramis though, they can be wonderful fish.

Hi guys. Sorry haven't been on for a few days as internet connection went down. One remaining Gourami's tail seems to be healing nicely and doesn't seem to be hassling any of the other fish. Neons are doing really well and I still have all 6. Have lost 2 of the guppies though; not sure if it was stress related as the two I lost were the ones that were ripped up the most. Water stats are fine but i'm a bit worried that the ph is really high at 8.2ppm and has been at that level for a few days now. Had a bit of nitrites show up but think i may have been over-feeding; did a large water change and all has been fine since.
