My new 5 gallon tank!

Fantastic looking tank  . I really want another small tank and the one you have is really great, unfortunately I haven't seen any like that over here in the UK. You can get the small hex tanks but they have UGFs and I don't really want one of those.

Love the guppy, great colouring!

hi Ryan! that's a pretty little tank you've got there -steals it away and hides- bwahaha ^^ no, i kid, but it is neat!

i agree with everyone else, two female Guppies and another four Glowlights won't do you much harm. remember; a tank is only overstocked when there's no room for territory, swimming, or the parameters are high!

you know what would look great? if you turned that tank into a saltwater tank, put a cats claw coral in the middle, and add a clown or two..... that would be so cool, dont you think?

Ryan, nice tank...I have two hex tanks..one is 42 gal. and the other is 2 gal. I think they have a real unique look to them even if you can't keep as many fish in them.

I have heard that the Eclipse tanks are top notch so you should be happy with your purchase. As far as fish, I would go with 5 neons and hope your glow-light joins their group. The reason I suggest neons is that it would add a different color to your tank as the glo-light and gourami are both gold/orange and so is your gravel and rock formation. Just my opinion of course.

Another thing you may consider is covering the back three panels with black or blue backing...or whatever you like. It seems to add a bit of depth to the tank and the colors of your fish tend to stand out, especially the glo-light or neons if you get them.

Seeing your tank makes me want to re-do my small one

Tetras usually but not always only shoal with their own kind. I have neons and glowlights and they each stay in their own groups. Also, the fry most likely won't survive with tetras. They are great at eating eggs..... :X
R.I.P little danios & shrimp. :-(

Since all of your fish in there are pretty peaceful, adding more wouldn't hurt. It might make for a few more cleanings than if you didn't have them but social wise, it wont hurt.

Becauase hexes are more of a vertical tank while rectangles are longer. And fish swim from side to side, not up and down.

I think people created hexes as a space saver when it's really not that good for the fish. Especially tetras because they love to swim in large groups. It's the same with birds. There are a lot of tall round cages when they should be short and long. Most animals like to go back and forth, not up and down.

What you could do is create a community tank with fish that like to swim at different levels. Take my 18 gallon tall for example, ;) I have danios which are dither fish that like to swim at the top, tetras that stay in the middle to bottom, and some shrimp and ottos which like to stay at the bottom. That way my tank looks active and there is no wasted space! I also did the same with my 26 show tank. Gourami like the top more since they are labyrinth fish (surface breathers, like bettas), they have to stay closer to the top to get to breath. And then I have rams which like the bottom of the tank. :fun:

 WOW, thanks for all the nice comments and advice!!!

At this point, I do really think neon tetras would add some nice color to the tank. Is 5 the magic number here, or would it be OKAY to get 4 and hope the glow light joins in....(I know there are mixed opinions on this, but you never know until you try)

Should I get them all at once or add them slowly to give the tank time to adjust?
(like over a few weeks)

Also, I really want some sort of cleaner fish, could I add a small OTO also?
They just hang out on the walls on bottom right? LFS people said they wouldn't count in overcrowding?

Any more advice or opinions are very welcome, again thanks to those who gave some already!!!

Go get 2 Neons first and then the other two after perhaps.4-Neons would be beter i think other wise they'll all be swimin on top of each other!!!

HELLO U LOT, THIS IS A COOL TOPIC

ok so u know my betta, he hangs around more to the top level, so does this mean i can put a couple more fish in? and suggestions? what else? could i put ?

Do you have a heater in that 5 gallon hex tank? I was looking at those last night at the Petco we have here. I was wondering if a heater would fit in it.
Nice looking tank. I wan one for my desk at work if I can put a heater in it. It gets really cold in there at night with the heat off.
