I just bought a 29 gallon tank yesterday and had it all filled and asembled within an hour. I added sand ontop of my green gravel and wow it looks prety good :). I'm going put tomarow to get a fishy pair and a good pice of wood and some cheepy plants from the lfs. I think their called arachnea or something that sounds like that... yet again i dont know how to spell it or pronounce it lol well it starts with an A and its normaly for like 1.29 or cheaper.

yes its being cycled. Since i put the sand in its been cloudy so im going to cycle it for an extra day. (cycle has now been 2 days)

edit- wel the nitrate / nitrite levels were high... unbeleavably high before i put in the sand while the water and green gravel was in :X ! But the have been down quite a bit since lest nights check. Oh yea! Um 2 cichlids should be all that tank can hold right? I'm new to them actualy so I really don't know much about them.

what kind of cichilds? No mbuna i hope. Maybe rams, small shell dwellers or some dwarfs. Lil small for cichilds sorry, but it might be tragic, that small of space with aggressive fish dont mix. You could just make it a species tank. Oh and Please tell me about the magical 2 day cycle i would like to learn it.

Rams i would think would need a more established tank, I'd get a pair of convcits or a pair of Firemouths

ok i reserved 4 pink convic fry. Their only about ____ that big and theres 1 smaller one. I don't think their that old... they dont have their color yet.

I'm just having them for starters and once they get too big ill give them to the lfs for maybe a baby jack dempsey or a puffer. Well ill bring them home tomarrow and give lots of pics! Their really small and they blend in with my sand :X !

So ill try my best at getting some desent pics.

GL :/ not sure how well the fish will do in a tank cycled for 2 days seein there that young and fragile. And how was it cycled? Why would you wanna raise fish to give back to lfs anyway? I get emotional attached to mine and feel really sad when 1 dies! Wish you couldve got more replies to help you b4 you reserved the fish.

nah im not out on much cash anyway! 25 cents a peice! i might keep 1 but eh... i dont know

I never knew about cycling till about a few weeks after i got my first 29 all set up and my origonal fish are still living and very healthy. Two of my first fish were dyed... and i had them for almost a full year now.
If i ever get bored of my compunity tank ill trade them in to my lfs and merge the two 29's no make a nice, decent size tank for them to live in:). so my options are unlimited.... kinda.

that tank is too small for convicts.

only cichlids i would put in there would be a pair of kribs...and thats a bare minimum. or maybe small shell dwellers

you take out the two side walls and get some of that plastic cement or what ever is safe and stick the two together.

my LFS stores have like the bare minimum for cichlids. I can order them through one of the stores but the guy will charge me like 3x what their worth! So I'm keeping the fry till their geting to a size that the tank can't handle then ill give them to the shop where i got them. For now i cant afford a 55g tank or anything bigger. I'm right now saving for a car also. The 4 fry that I have that are about half an inch big are good in a 29 gallon tank for now.

not everyone can get big fancy tanks...
