I am moving to a house soon and excited to buy a large tank to have has my planted show tank.

I talked to two knowledgeable people at the store and one thinks a sump is the way to go, the other feels that canister filters are better for planted tanks with co2. The guy who said go with a large canister feels that the surface agitation in a sump would make it very hard to keep my co2 levels up...

I am also concerned about what type of co2 reactor will work for a tank this large. Im having great of success in my 90g with a glass diffuser with 25% of the co2 running into my filter intake, 50% being blown across the tank with a power head, 25% of the co2 going into a small powerhead that runs into my uv sterilizer - will this work well enough for my 265g?

Any input of stocking is welcomed - Im thinking 50 rummy nose, bosmani and neon rainbows, and denisons (Indian flasher) barbs.

i sucsessfully grow plants in my 218g us with a sump and no co2 what so ever especially cabomba it grows at 1/2 inch per 24 hours roughly ive had it in about a week it was a foot tall and now its as high as the water and its now growing across the top, my tank is 2foot 6 inch high

265G is that Uk or US? Either way a BIG BIG BIG tank, SO jealous.

Mark.
265 us gal, Im also thinking about a 300g but it is 3 feet from front to back, not sure it will fit where I want to put it.

I know you can grow without c02 but I have tried both and I love using co2. I had some giant val growing 10 inches in 24hrs. The main difference Ive seen with c02 and high lighting is the size of each leaf increases allot. I now have a regular sword plant that about 30 inches tall - to tall for my current tank.

i would go for a closed loop sump system
I like the idea of building a sump. I do have a spare 55g tank after I buy my new larger tank. I will do some research about how to build a closed system sump, do you know any good links?

i stuggled to get mine in ive had to push it into the alcove lol so you cant see some of the tank
