My Micky mouse platty

This morning i noticed she had red gills but she might have already, i might just be paranoid anyway i noticed because one of the males is pecking at her and she responds by going on her side every now and then. Apart from them being red there is nothing else wrong at all.

I have no idea of the color patterns of platies, but if she is not flicking and acting irritated then I would imagine shes fine. She's not clampy is she?

Maybe the male is pestering her?

the male does seem to be annoying her, everytime he goes near her she like ducks down under him to get away

Maybe i'm paranoid because i just did a search on these micky mouse platy and they do seem to have red gills anyway, second opinion to reasure me anyone? lol
should i still seperate her if the males are annoying her?

I'm a livebearer know-nothing! But, I do know this... You should have a few females for each male or they will pester them to breed constantly,maybe that's what's going on.

I only ask if she's clampy to rule out parasites

Maybe post about it in livebearers for a more expertise answer. I'm really not sure. It seems she wouldn't want to be punished in a breeder net because he is a butthead

Maybe more hiding places to give her a spot to find some alone time. You have room for more females,but that means babies...

You would be better off just buying another female or two; if she ends up separated on her own she will become depressed as platys are sociable fish. If her gills are looking redder than usual i would check out your ammonia/nitrate/nitrite stats just see if everythings ok because if somthing is amiss in them these would probably be the cause of the red gills in your fish.

I agree. I have 6 platys and none of them are really red around the gills.

If she has red gills and the other are pecking at her face it's gill flukes, heavy breathing and flicking and rubbing, you will need to medicate the whole tank with a gill fluke med.
