My Marine Adventure

Couldn't find the manual for your specific model, but I found one for the river reef.

Thanks for that Greg.

It goes down to the bottom where there is a gap that lets it into the last chamber. The pump in the last chamber is pumping water out and the water in the last chamber is not going down so i am guessing there is water going through. But it does not seem to suck the water down through from the top.

Hmm ill take a look at that manual and get back to you.

I don't think its going to 'suck' water through directly but lower the water level in the last chamber so water from the previous chamber will flow in.

When i try to take the water out of the last chamber it does not go down much, As its taking water ut of the whole tank and not just that chamber.

Will take a look at manual and double check things.

You want the water level in the last chamber to be the lowest (see the vid you posted) and should give you the best flow rate. It will be much easier for the pump to lower the water level of the last chamber vs the whole overflow. The bigger the difference in water levels the better the flow through the filtration system.

Also try lowering your water level so that the water isn't flowing into the overflow with the pump off, maybe a cm below the overflow. When you turn the power back on the water level in the tank will go up and it will begin flowing. Might just work.

I tried to take water out of the last chamber but the whole water level of the tank went down with the water level in that last chamber, Will need a tinker about with it i think, I dont have the flood gate thingy like the river reef, It just flows over the top.

I got my rock today it came in a polystyrene box, Nightmare trying to get all the polystyrene off the rocks and out of the water :(

There wasnt any water in the box with the rock and it was quite dry, There does not seem to be any life in it but time will tell. I will post some pics up tomorrow.

OK i found a few little creatures within the rock, Only little but im not sure what they are or what there going to do lol.

This thing seems to have fallen out of the rock overnight and isnt doing much now but laying there.

This one is sticking out of the rock, It has now gone back into the rock but i did see it sticking out the other side of the rock.

Any help with them would be great.

Here is the rock, I have just dumped it in there for now and will re-scape soon.

Sorry, I may not have been clear. I meant lower the water level of the entire tank slightly below the overflow. Take the water out with the power off, both the filter area and the tank water level will go down, this is normal(with the power still off). When you turn the power back on the water level in the display will go up and the water level in the filter will go down and should begin spilling over. The key is NOT to have water connecting the filter area with the main tank when the power is off. When you turn the pump back on water will 'overflow' and spill into the filter area.

Did the rock drip water when you took it out of the box?
If it wasn't dripping water I would try and get your money back :(. The whole point of LR is to get creatures (mostly worms and pods but sometimes crabs and other stuff) and various microbes alive on the rock. Much of the macro life will die if it spends 12H out of the water. All the LR I ordered came fully submerged and the ones that didn't spent about 30 min out of water in transit from the LFS to my house.

Pic 1 looks like your basic bristle worm (good guy). If it is laying like that, my guess is that it is dead. Pick it up with tweezers, never your bare hand. They have spines like a cactus.
Pic 2, hard to say, could be a brittle star or a worm.

I would remove that large worm if it's still accessible. Although it's impossible to tell with any certainty from that pic, I'm seeing a white band that, if near the head (I can't tell which end is which from the pic), is characteristic of some Eunicid species. I'm also not seeing the characteristic tufts of venomous white spines that typical good bristleworms have. Another tuft-less possibility would be a Nereid (ragworms), which sometimes ride in on LR. Of course, it is possible for the fluffy bristleworms to get so beaten up that they don't show the tufts along the body, but when in doubt it's better to remove it and either have a close look before putting it back or keep it out as a precaution.

Thanks Greg, I will attempt that later this morning. I believe the worm must be dead as it has not moved from that spot.

The other white looking worm is still in the rock. Will see if i can get any better pictures of it.

Hoping to scape my rock soon and start testing the water, Once i get the chambers sorted out.

With regards to the rock, It was damp but not dripping. I thought there was water in there with it but there wasn't.

There seems not much if any life in it, There is a few things growing on there, real tiny will get pics and show you.

I guess thats what i get for ordering online. The guy was bringing it himself but let me down then he had it couriered, I am guessing if he had brought it then it would have been ok.

Oh well. I can't be doing with the stress and hassle of sending it back and stuff. I might buy a few kilos from my lfs and add that too it.

Will post pics and try the method you spoke of Greg with regards to the water levels. Thanks.

OK It seems the problem with the flow is due to the two grills under teeth at the top. I think if i block the two grills it should just filter through the teeth at the top.

Looks like there was a wier gate sent out to river reef customers or something.

Whats the best method to cover the grills.

Is this something growing on the rock.

And here are the grills that other link in my previous post suggests to cover over.

Ya, that worm is dead. They are never out in the open like that, much less in that position. You can seed the rock with a few nice pieces from the LFS.

You might be able to cover it with a plastic bag (might be held on by suction) till you can get the gate. You could also goup it closed with some silicone and attach a piece of dry/base rock to cover it up. You are still going to have to lower your water level to get your over flow to work like an overflow.

Make sure the silicone doesn't have anti mold or fungus stuff in it, it can make your tank inhabitable. I would use marineland's silicone, its a little more expensive but its going to be safe.
