My Mac Computer Betta Tank

Ah yes the Macintosh Plus aquarium hehehe. Times have changed, and if you can get your hands on a Mac G4 Cube in decent shape, here's a project which IMHO has a much cooler end result providing a chic betta home, especially as you can see the fish from all sides, not just through the old monitor hole:

G4 Cubequarium

Page comes complete with pics of a sexay betta living it up!

Anyways, a G4 Cube chassis that has been discarded and is still in decent shape may be harder to come by than a Mac Plus but I thought I'd suggest it on its coolness factor.

Good luck and show us when you're done :D

Well I just opened it up and the hole inside was burt to a crisp. No wonder I got it for 3 bucks... :X Anyways, I looked inside and noticed that the frount panel of glass that you would look through I custom made, I would have to have a glass blower make a custom panneled and shaped glass. So I looked into it and the small piece of glass would cost me 30 bucks.

Im scrapping this idea due to WAY to much money ATM.

Maybe in the future ill do it.

Actually this has been done, there was a post about it ages ago. Stupid IMO, Water and electrical things don't mix.

Personally the mac idea is WAY too much work when I can get a 1 gallon Aquaview at Walmart for $10, LOL. But I guess I just have too many water changes to do and don't have time to build tanks out of old computers.

I was under the impression that in aquarium purposes, they just flush-fitted a flat pane against the inside of the front, regardless of what the screen may have been shaped like (slightly bulging out if I remember right).

Imagine what a nightmare temperature regulation would be in the betta section, with the fluctiations between on and off for the computer, it might be really hard.

I guess it's a one shot deal, if I ever go for it, it's gonna be 1 tank only, I can't see too many people wanting to open an assembly line and do one of these for each of their bettas. Cuz yea, an Aquaview is pretty much just as nice. Its really for those folk who love the aesthetic of the mac and I'd consider myself one of them. It would be cool to have that in my livingroom, but my plain glass cube bowl will do just fine thanks :p
