My Lab

how do you get him to hold stuff in his mouth? my rotties would have swallowed it.

my lab was the same, theyre designed to fetch and retrieve so they naturally hold things.

they have special lips/gums too which will close up over their teeth to stop them damaging the game theyre asked to retrieve

my lab used to play fetch forhours in the garden, would drop it at your feet and go off again, to the point once that the people who had him off us did it too much and caused him to have a fit!

Haych is right, they have been genetically bread to be soft mouthers. Not to say a Lab wouldn't rip something to bits! They have to be trained from pups to hold things like ducks with something that weighs about the same as an average duck. They also would be corrected if they start to rag it about.

My grandfather always told me that the blacker the mouth, the softer the bite. I know this is an old school thing, but it does have some truth.

I have seen retrievers that are trained to collect fresh eggs in their mouths. It just shows how soft mouthed they are that they are able to carry eggs and not crack them

yep.. my dogs clever like thast.

she'll tihnk its a ball and eat it.

I Dont know if she was enjoying herself. Or if she's just supid

but today in the snow. She had her head in the snow like wth?

And THEN I Buried her ball and told her to find it.

Despite me burying it RIGHT infront of her eyes she looked inside the house. The back of the garden. and the porche.

Such a stupid but lovely dog :D

our lab was extremely clever.

we used to give him dentastix, lock him behind the door, wipe the stick around the floor creating a trail and hide his treat.

he'd find it.

i do miss him :(

you can adopt mine if ya want...you send me a tenner a month, and i'll send you a picture each month, a badge with his face on, a car sticker and you'll even get a birthday card from him. :good:
