my huge tank

I don't bala sharks are predators.....I think he will be fine if he takes out the gobby and the puffers...and if he had adequate filtration and weekly water changes...

aqactually there are some fresh water bubble bess gobbies, though they are quite hard to find.

those tetras must be terrified of the angels and balas. They need to be in schools! I think you need to instruct your parents about fish before they buy them.
and you can get loaches to remove snails. Not just puffers.

nice tank.................amazed that the angels havnt eaten the neons!

oh and the ouffers need to be seperated!

This is not true, it is just undeducated retailers keeping the gobies in freshwater. They will soon die pretty quickly if kept in freshwater for more than a couple of months...

sorry but...there are a couple of species of bumble bee gobies and 1 of them will leave in freshwater, there is also the brackish type that need to be swiftly moved to brackish.

umm guys i'm not sure about the bumble bees being brakish cos here the fish have been bred in fresh water for so long... they seem very happy and healthy i've had them for a month and no problem i took out the puffers now... waiting for someone to take them in

anyway the balas... i really wanna get rid of them (another un anounced introduction by my dad) i think i'll set them free in the river

Do NOT, I reapeat NOT, put them in the river! That will do one of two things,

1. The fish, balas, will be killed by the local fish,
2. The balas will destroy the natural eycosystem. They will eat any small fish, etc. They may even breed, though that is a long shot, and the water ways will be taken over with the balas.

I believe you should go on a rescue mission and take the fish to a trusty lfs, and tell the parents that they have jumped out do to over stocking and bad water qualities, because some fish, such as killies, will jump out of tanks with water that they do not like.

Nice looking tank, but like everyone has said, you need to make a few changes to stocking. Also, NEVER release fish into the wild (and that includes flushing them!). Besides them likely dying and of course that they might breed/disrupt the ecosystem, aquarium fish can carry disease into the wild which they have developed an immunity but the wild populations have not - that, as you can probably imagine, has a devastating effect on the whole food chain and can result in the death of everything ranging from the fish in the river and near by bodies of water to birds and other wildlife. Also, someone suggested loaches instead of puffers to get rid of snails. That's a good suggestion but please, PLEASE make sure any loaches you end up with are not something aggressive or that grows huge (such as skunk loaches or clowns!). Also, please increase the numbers in your tetra/schooling fish shoals. It isn't fair to keep them alone or in inadequate numbers.

I'm not gonna mention stocking or fish compatibility! I think your tank looks really good from an aquascaping point of view, just like a river bank! Is the background one of those textured stick inside ones, or is it just the flat stick on the back outside ones? Cos it looks really REAL!! :p

good god, dont put them in the river... that better have been a troll...

I just remebers something about what was mentioned earlier about the fish that get put into rivers by people taking over etc.

Well at my uncles fishing club pond one of the members had some goldfsih. They were getting to big to keep in the tank, so they put them in the pond. Well, they were not all the smae sex, so they breed, and like mad as well! The whole pond was taken over by goldfish. None of the native fish to it were able tp produce many off spring because the goldfish ate them all. They are still trying to remove the goldfish, 10 or so years latter, but havent gotten most out yet. So they have to import fish every year, and the people can only take home 1 fish each visit so that there will still be some for others to catch because of the goldfish.

I doubt you want that to happen and have 14 plus inch "sharks" swimming all over the stream.

well we've got some fierce half beaks, snakeheads, and catfish in our rivers... and there are no that sort of fishing going about... so i doubt they'd survive

oh but balas could live with the worst of them.
