i have a ranchu and a red cap oranda that suddenly wont leave each others side. what does this mean?

they ususally swim around all the time by themselfs but since about two days ago they stay together and wont swim too much. they just stay next to each other and wont swim much.

whats going on?

do you notice any ponpoms on either of them?

i havent really looked at them that much but they are chubby as hell normally

what should i be looking for

could one be pregnant?

you are looking for fluffy extrudances from the nasal area of the fish

if one has these it is a he, and he is ready to spawn, that would explain the behaviour.

For a male goldie he has whats called breeding stars or tubercles on his gill plates and these can extend to the front fins. They look like white bumps similar to ich but the difference being they come from under the gill plates.

Sorry wolf but pompom goldies are a breed and not a sex.

It doesnt sound like breeding behaviour, just goldies hanging out i suppose. Check all the perameters to make sure everything is ok water wise.
Also, have you changed where the filters point? sometimes if the water is too fast they will stay in one place where theres no current.

thanks angel

ima look at them more close today when i get off work

My goldfish do that whenever thier water conditions are off, or if one of them is feeling ill; otherwise, they avoid one another, or fight for food. Since your guys weren't chummy before, but suddenly are, I'd definately take the advice of testing your waters. I would add to that advice, carefully examining both fish for any signs of illness. Hopefully they're just becoming buddies, but better safe than sorry. ;)

no need to appologise.
I thought the "stars" were called pon poms and the pon pom breed was named after that. live and learn my friend, live and learn. ;)

We do indeed wolf, i learn something new here every day as well :)

My comet and shubunkin think they're a mated pair. They are always together, and the female does the headstand "Let me go for a minute" thing. The parameters are perfect and everything. They're just goofs!
