:-( i dont know how.
i've only had him for a ltitle over a week.
only wierd behavior i noticed was that the last day before he died he was out alot, and not hiding, and then he started turning white. not like ich, but just little splotches. and then i woke up to find him completely pale and dead.......

i really dont know whats wrong. i havent lost a fish in a long time, and i had to loose the most expensive fish that i bought.

anyone know what a reason could be why?

my water is perfectly fine. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate.
and the only other things that could effect my water is i add diyco2, i add iron fertilizer couple times a week, and i add a little bit of kno3 everyday.

any help/ideas would be great...

Going pale is a sign of stress it could be that iron stuff that you add for your plants, the other fish probably have learnt to tolerate it.

No one knows how old the fish are or the way they were shipped before they reach your lfs before you buy them but sods law says you are more than likely to lose your most expensive fish before you lose a neon.

Sorry to hear of your loss but hang on in there.

Only reason I can think off is that stress got to him. The weaker type of plecs (pretty much the more expensive ones) often die within 2 weeks to a month after being purchased. I dont think its anything that you've done wrong, I think its simply bad luck.

--Edit--

I'm no good with the AM/PM times, is this a quite recent thread (as in, within the last 3 hours?) or is it older? I've seen a lot of these around today, and am quite sure some were deleted/locked. New one or old?

new, i just posted this up.

i never heard that before, they they die so soon....

i feel so bad, but i seriously dont know what else i could have done better.
ive been wanting one for soooo long, i finally saved up, and then its gone.

are gold nuggets more sensitive then others?
why do u say they only last 2-4 weeks?

I think that what Erised is getting at is that these types of Plecs are not particularly hardy and the 1st couple of weeks are traumatic as they try to adapt to a new environment. It is in this 1st couple of weeks that they are most vulnerable. I have a 1 year old Golden Nugget Plec so don't be too disheartned, I think you were just unlucky. Also they don't seem to like other bottom feeders and like a good hiding place. It took nearly 2 months before I even saw mine when i first added him to the tank. He now chases my 3 port hoplo catfish, which are at least twice his size, if they come near his cave
