after reading one of the threads about girls..I checked my girls out upstairs, not my little red ct girl who doesnt look very red in the first photo, lives next door to a pk girl(?) who I rescued from a tank of girls as she was being bullied. If you show the second girl(?) a mirror she wont flare but she has made a lovely bubble nest, got my suspicions she might be a boy! :shout: :shout: late developer perhaps...got her/his almost identical fish downstairs that I had the same problem with...excuse dirty tank they are near a window hence the algae

Lol Liz, hard isn't it? I really cant help you, I got my own Male/Female situation going on. All I'll say is good luck finding out. I'm passing some photos round a few breeders to see if they can shed any light. Maybe you could do the same?

Good luck!

That is deffinetley a male his pelvic fins (the two spikey things in front of bottom fin) are to big to be a female. The hardest to tell apart at a younger age is vt's!!! i couldnt tell one of my male vt's from a female for ages!!! PK's are fairley easy to tell apart the pelvic fins are always bigger in size maybe same size but will be more chunkey.
Good Luck.

I have to disagree. If you can get a nice profile pic, that would help, but I have seen MANY females that have ventral fins just as long as that ones are.
I have HAD females with vents that long.
Though your fish does look more masculine, I am not so ready to say that is a male.
And bubblenests by females are also quite common. I have females that build better ones than half my males.

I do agree that females can build big bubble nests but i also had a pk that i though was a female and turned out to be a male and it looks identical to yours i can get a pic if you want :good:

I agree with fullcircle, these things are really tough, though I have to say he/she has a very masculine face

Certainly Looks male from all appearances. Does have the spotty dorsal fin that i usually see more in Males.

Again, a profile picture might help to give a better assessment.
I have females that look exactly like your fish that were female.
I have had males with "ovipostitors".
The pictures are too ambigous.

will try to get a better photo later but am running round after my 20 month old grand daughter at the mo whoosshhh :hyper:

"She" reminds me of the little male pk I lost. So cute. Mine was a late bloomer as well. So I say male.

I hve no idea... looks pretty masculine, but that's not saying much lol.
Either way it's a purdy fish! :good:
