OUr BGN has been behaving strangely for a couple of days- moving to another part of the tank, and seems to be breathing differently (though I'm not sure of this since he normally lies in his log.

Today he came out long enough for me to see that he has an open sore on his side. It is the size of a very small button, and looks just like an open sore.

All the tank parameters are good. I check everything regularly because we have had a lot of problems with our tank with algae, but that has been mostly under control for a month or so. Our weather has been hot and I am having to put ice blocks in the tank daily to keep the temperature below 27 degrees. We have a community tank, with glassfish an angel and a pleco.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an ulcer to me.
Ulcers are pink or red with a circling of dead white tissue around the edges.
Ulcers can be bacterial, caused by parasites or bad water quality.

would it be water quality given the tank parameters?

How do I treat it?

how long have you had your tank set up? with 0 nitrates that often points to a newly set up tank? do you have a lot of plants in the tank perhaps?
