I put a female guppy in my tank with my (supposedly) gay male guppy, the one who had been nuzzling up to the male platty. Well, after a day or two the male guppy ditched the platty in favor of the female guppy.

I guess he's more of a hound than I am. :hey:

But now the problem is the platty seems to be really heartbroken over this sudden turn of events. He and the guppy used to swim around the tank together, and now the two guppies do that while the platty just sits behind the filter (presumably) sulking.

How can I cheer up my ex-gay platty? Are they schooling fish? Would it help if I bought another platty?

Or should I just place the tank in front of the tv whenever Queer Eye comes on? :dunno:

Actually, get him 2 females and get another female guppy. Livebearers like guppies and platies should be kept in a 1 male to every 2 females ratio (at least) else the female is likely to get very stressed because the male will not leave her alone.

I suggest getting 2 female platties and 1 female guppy

I vote for Queer Eye!!!! Just gotta love flamers like Carson. I swear my friend could pass in looks and attitude for carson. They are better "females" than I am. :dunno:

LOL
I have nothing to offer in the way of advice, but I have laughed over your first post about your gay fish, now this one...

How funny.

well theres actually a book you can buy with all the gay animals in. Ricky Gervais(comedian the office) talks about it in 1 of his shows.

I have 5 sunset platies.. they are all male(i think) They get on fine.. i want to get some females but i guess i ll need 10 though huh.. i was thinking more like 2 or 3. Probably wont bother now.
