I think it depends where you get them from.
I have some from one store that are quite pale with orange fins, & some from another store that are much deeper in colour with bright red fins, more like the ones you see in all the pics
I read somewhere that they're being found in other pools & the colouring is different so there could be different strains, time will tell

Got a link to the article or can you find it for me? As far as i was aware the orange tint is something the females have while the males carry a more red colouration. Be an interesting read for me if you can dig up the info. Ta

the females never get the deep orange of the males. the males get darker orange fins as they mature and get better condition. it takes them quite a long time to get the deep orange colour. alot of the ones you buy from fish shops are pale but do colour up eventually. take a picture in a few months and compare it to youre first pics. it is not just the orange that is pale in newer stock but the allover body colour is pale in comparison to mature established fish.

I found the article, don't know if I'm allowed to post the link here though

Apologies if this isn't allowed.
Here's the link to the article, scroll down.
Right at the bottom it describes the other colour variant

just read that page very informative :) thanks for sharing ! my tank should be ready for Thursday i also have some microworms on the way for them hopefully will help color them up a bit ! :good:

You're welcome, it's a very informative article, especially as it explains why some we see in our Lfs look a lot paler than the pics we see on the net

well i have been looking for another 2ft tank for my attempt at breeding my galaxy rasboras and one came up on gumtree which seem to be just what i was looking for i got for 40quid:

elite 60 tank
stingray filter
gravel
cherry barbs
few other we fish i dont know
fake plants
food
heater
and a stand so was a good deal i thought :) he only mentioned the tank in the add mind you

but i changed the filter to my fluval u2 (that i had running in my 110L til i got this tank)
changed the gravel to my fine black gravel instead of the fine reddy pink gravel
put some life plants

all is going well apart from i want to get a new bulb as its a moonlight or something in atm and its not so bright

i sold the fish to a wee disabled man that was in hospital and came home to all his fish dead as the person he had to look after them lost the key so i gave him about 8fish cherry barb/some other we silver fish and 4 bristlenose fry for 4pound so he could get his tank sorted again :)
how much are cherry barbs anyway?

Glad you managed to get another tank at a good price, it's the same make as my 60 litre
I'm sure they'll love their new space once they settle in

Any fry yet?
Mine seem to spawn quite a bit, but not seen any fry
