Well i did some digging around and asked a few people and they have all said that they can be kept with fish as long and its planted and there is plenty to brake the line of sight. as for the basking area he can quite happily get up the large piece of bog wood and bask on top he is up the most the time when the lights are on. Right under the lights (he loves it)
I dont no what species of plant it is but it is defo aquatic and its doing quite well. lots of new shoots and leaves since planting it. really brightens up the for ground of the tank with its deep rich purple underside of the leaves.
Nice looking tank but I've got got some constructive criticism
.
Sorry to say you've been given very bad info.
As said, you
definitely have a few non-aquatic plants in there (I can identify
Hemigraphis exotica and I think I see
Trichomanes javanicum - click the links), your turtle needs a proper basking area and you have been told its the wrong species.
You have a
musk turtle not a soft shell (which would be even less suited to your tank anyway), and the fluorescent lights in there are
not enough for basking, the temperature isn't high enough, you have no temperature gradient and really a larger basking area would be better. See here for a decent care guide: http
/www.exotic-pets.co.uk/common-musk-turtle.html
You should get a proper basking spot bulb...the whole point of florescent bulbs is that they don't produce much heat compared to other types of lighting (thus saving energy), plus the turtle should have a temperature gradient so it can control its own temperature like it would in nature...a long fluorescent tube doesn't allow this even if it did produce enough heat.
Also, you should expect fish to go missing at some point in the future...just because its OK now doesn't mean it will always be, one snap from the turtle and you have a dead fish...and once it catches on that it can eat the fish...not a sensible risk to take IMO.
You would be better to re-home the turtle if you care about your fish, or take it back to the irresponsible store that sold it to you, at least then there's a chance someone will buy it and give it a proper turtle set-up.
Other than that, nice tank, but you need to do a lot more research before buying animals
