My Fish - Plecs, Angels, Rainbow Cichlids, Etc

Hi Kathy, I have to say your black juvi angel Morphious is just stunning. Will have to keep my eyes open for a fish like that.

Nice looking angels! :) I have some koi that I'm trying to get to pair that look similar to Neo. Koi with very little orange are often referred to as panda koi. I'm on day 11 of this procedure trying to get them to pair; http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breedi...%20seasons.html It is one nasty looking tank, and it's not going to get any better for about 10 more days.

Lucifer is a silver ghost, a silver with one dose of stripeless. Check out http://theangelfishsociety.org/articles/no...r_norton(1).htm For more on angel genetics.

Thank you all very much! :D

Tolak - so should I be calling Neo a Panda Angel then? Very swish *lol*. Also thanks for the ID on Lucifer. Good luck with the breeding mission - one day I'd love to do something like that, but I need my bigger house first (which may be on the cards now - anyone want to help shift a 6 x 2 x 2 tank and a laminate floor simultaneously?!?!).

Kuhni - I haven't checked the photo since I had a cup of coffee, but it's possible I've mislabelled it. I have two BRs - one male, one female.

Dercola - Morpheus is one of my faves in the tank, but he isn't half fiesty! He's the smallest of the angels and is a right bully.

I'm now pretty sure I have a male and a female Rainbow Cichlid. We bought three, and gave one of the obvious males to my sister LisaLQ. The other two seem "paired" now - swim together all the time. One is larger and brighter coloured, and has the beginnings of a humpy head I think. The one I think is female has not got as large a head, is less brightly coloured, and has a rounder/deeper belly. I'll see if I can illustrate this, but the pics aren't as good quality as the others...

This is the one I'm pretty sure is male.

This one is the one I think is female.

Nice tank and even nicer fish :). I think your bolivian ram might be a male because you can see that the second dorsal fin is larger than the rest.

Just checked again to make sure I had a pic of the right one (I have a male and a female). That one's definitely the female as you can see her ovipositor. :good:

you have lovely angels.
Wish I still had my deformed angel had no tail and was round like a Discus.

Hey well - seems like I don't need to sex these Rainbows any more - male is now performing some sort of "courting" behaviour with the female. She's stationary next to one of the big bits of bogwood, and looking at him like he's mad. He's pulling all sorts of mad colourful tricks for her - circling, colouring up, etc. It's amazing what men will do to get some :hey:

Great pics Kathy :good:

Yes, you definitely have it right. That is the male as you can see by his pointed anal fin and the female is more rounded and tubby in the tummy department  the male will always show more colour than her also.

Get ready for the eggs! If you notice them sneak off then appear looking very dark, almost black then you can guarantee they have eggs or fry ;)

Oh wow! It's a shame I don't have a spare tank now. Typical! When I move I'm going to save for a tank for them so they can be bred properly. Haven't got a hope in hell of raising fry in there sadly. But it's still lovely to know they're happy enough to have paired like this :D
