Thanks for the lovely comments
i currently have 12 platys 5 mollies 1 swordtail i neon tetra 3 female guppys 1 male guppy

these all came from my previos 4 ft tank
i put most of my media from the old tank into my new external filter

and the fish stayed in another tank whilst i ran it for a week

the rest of the media was then transfered to the new tank along with an handfull of gravel into the new external; filter

keeping a check on my water parameters ! i think ph a little low but that maybe due to the bogwood

tested today with jbl test kit new on friday

nitrites 0

nitrates 5

ph 6.8 - 7

amonia 0.05

any advise on if i need to do a water change now would be great ty in advance

forgot to say the tank is 300 ltrs
linda :)

somethings not quite right with the balance as the ammonia should be at zero
but the jbl test set says this amount is safe please can anyone confirm this
if not a water change and how much ?
i usually do 15-20% weekly
thanks
linda

i also added most of the water from the previous 4ft tank
all the fish seem very happy
will do another water test tomorrow

many livebearers! argh! :D

0.05 ammonia is fine, it will soon zero in time once the media/bacteria have settled, just test daily make sure it doesnt go over 0.25.

hi tizer

many thanks
i read the jbl test and you confirmed what the book says ! best to be onthe safe side though
yes i gotta admit i love me live bearers
i couldve had some oscars
but they are huge and these ones bite your hands off i thought they was pirahanas lol
they belong to my husbands daughter who wants to sell them and the tank which is pretty huge stands on breeze blocks with wood shelving

very beautiful.
What are those pretty orange and black fish? Are they Mollies? Forgive me if this is a dumb question, I am new to tropical fish. They are lovely.
