My First Tank Journal.

I like the way this tank is going! The pike will be a fantastic addition to the tank I think all your fish will have such a good shine to them :)

thanks! well sunday will be the day when i set this tank up, im really going to take my time with this tank as often before i have rushed the set up (not cycling) but the skaping of the tank, so i'm not going to fill it sunday just get the sand and start with the rocks. but don't worry i will keep updating through out.

sorry for the wait guys but the tank and stand has been set up. still empty i might be able to temp my dad to come out with me and get me some sand. and who heres some snaps.

this is the location, for you eagle eyed viewers you will see its under a window, but that window has about an hour of direct sunlight a day, so no worries also i'm going to back it with pure black paper then have my actual background. this should keep the tank cool, but for those really hot days i have a black out blind.

Edit: nEw PaGe!!!!

right! thank you everyone for being patient!! i have now got my sand in which was blinding expensive but i have a theme in mind and normal play sand would not fit the spec!

planning on getting a eheim 2028 for this tank. do you guys think i would be pushing it if i decided to get a lonely elephant nose where i work? with four pictus cats, dwarf pike cichlid and three spanner barbs?

hey guys... tank is moving along slowly as all available funds are paying off items i purchased a few weeks ago! i definitely want a 3d background on this tank and i cannot decide between the juwel backgrounds on offer.

heres some pics.
heres the limestone background.

this is the clay back ground.

and finally granite

the reason i'm having such issues is that i will choose the rocks based on what the background is so i feel i cannot move further before i sort this out.

and final edit.. whilst browsing for images i really like the look of this tank but i think i would have the two pieces not symmetrical like this person has done.

i keep adding as i keep searching i found this on ebay and it doesn't look like the other limestone background as posted above but i think i like this one the most.

do you think with all the gray my stocking would stand out?

i have to ask... WHAT is so special about that sand? it looks like normal sand to me :look:

also, sorry to say, but you really should have put the backing on before putting in the sand

to be honest i don't think its going to be to hard to just push some of the sand forward about two inches, so in that respect i don't think its a problem. well the sand on the other hand my friend used it and i thought "i want this tank to be as different as possible to the tank its sitting next to, in which i have used regular play sand. so yer its nothing special just over priced but i was silly enough to buy it! any ideas on the background?

i think youv'e done a good job there. You gonna be sticking any plants in there?

Looking good so far , if you want bright colours on your fish to stand out go with the darker background, all 3 look nice to be honest..can't wait to see pics of fish in there, good stuff :good:

thanks guys i've just ordered the limestone background :D and just set up my eheim 2028.

don't believe me heres some pics ha!

oh thought i would have a problem with filter box but i have managed to bodge a solution. basically i had no way of getting the external pipes into the tank without mutilating the tank which i really didn't want to do. so my solution was to rise the filter box up by around three inches using mother natures very wood!
DSCN9993.jpg

as you can see this is not a long term solution but will do for the time being. and oh i did not cut the the hole in the lid i think the previous owner did for an air pump or something. but this damage isn't really visible from the front.

oh merry christmas is anyone doing anything today? i'm going to watch my cousins in the church nativity yeah! hope you can feel the sarcasm!
