Well last night my bettas spawned!
I noticed at 2:30 in the morning to a tank full of eggs!
I took the female out and now the male is starting to eat the eggs that fall to the bottom!! Do I want to take him out this early?? He still has a lot of work to do... Hes well conditioned.... I don't know why hes eating the eggs.??

is he or is he putting them back in the nest just watch carefully and he may take a few moments but if he picks them up and then blows into the nest he is putting them back......... :p

I thought that too, but he just picks them off the bottom then swims around the tank....

LOL! It's not funny but it sounds typical. He could be eating unfertilized eggs though. Watch him (from a distance!) if you see him stuff his face into the nest and pull out a mouthful without blowing them back, then he's eating them. It's too hard to judge by what he picks up off the bottom.

i have seen them keep them in the mouth for over a minute then spit them into the nest some sort of cleaning, or they may be the ones that were not fertilised.........

True dat! I've sworn that a male swallowed and sure enough he makes a liar out of me by just carrying them around.

Ok Ill start to be more concerned if he starts eating from the nest.
Thanks

betta eyes are sharper than us. They mostly do know which eggs is fertilized and which one is not. :D if i were you, let him finished up the process.:)

Good luck with your spawn :)

I know I thought my female was eating the eggs when mine spawned because she would go to the bottom and pick them up then embrace again straight away, but every now and again she would blow them into the nest

Dady is doing good. I notice from time to time he will add bubles to the nest a long w/ some eggs. He isn't picking up all of the eggs from the bottom but he's getting most of them.

Watch out under the bubbles nest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They got millions tiny tails hanging down now. LOL

So now its been 40+ hours since the spawn and no tails yet.....
Knowing my luck they were all not fertilized. :(

It depends on temperature, and might vary between different fish. You should have some by 48 hours, but Wuv and I have had some go past that to hatch. About 52 for me is my tops, but I thought that was weird because my normal time is 36 hours in a tank that is 82.

Thats good to hear :) The temp has been at 81, Ill just leave it until tomorrow and see what happens. I got my fingers crossed.

Already 40 for the temperature 81? Hmmmm... Maybe you need a magnifying glass to look carefully. If you can't see the eggs, that is mean they are in the bubbles hiding. If not, and only see the eggs, That is mean they are not fertilized. If still can't find both, they must be in the male yummy. :p
