My First Spawn Omg So Excited

thanks a million baccus d twotankamin i have some bogwood in there im going to get more on the weekend so hopefully they will enjoy that too daddy BN has been moving around quite alot in his cave the morning wonder whats going on.

what does from twotankamin "They all look albino initially" mean thanks

probably that the fry are all bright yellow when they hatch its only when they get their adult colouration that you'll be sure which are albino. I really should get some pics of my next fry and photograph them through the stages of development.
these are pink though lol there so cool how many do they usally have on the first spawn

Really hard to say how many they will have in a first spawning. So many variables eg. size of parents, parents conditioning before breeding, dispruption of the nest (if eggs get knocked out and eaten by fellow tank mates), let alone the habit of fry just up and dying/disappearing. I would hazard a guess that 30-50 fry surviving past all the early hurdles in thier tiny lives is a pretty safe bet provided all the usual tank maintenance (water parameters stay stable) is continued and the fry can get plenty of food with out becoming food themselves.
Congrats

i cant see them at all father is blocking the whole entrance i dried to put i bit of food in to help but he went for my finger lol hopefully i will be able to see them soon any tips will be appreciated are they getting fed ok will i have to pop some food in ???

thanks

they will be feeding off there yolk sacs for now, until they are fully coloured and ready to leave dad :good:

As already said they will feed off there yolk sack for the first few days then the male will let them out the cave once there ready to feed try not to put him off.

i feed my fry Fresh Courgette (Zuchi) and algea wafers

now they have spawned they will spawn every month,

i do daily 10% water changes the fry need the water to be spot on

By my approximation (judging by the dates on your posts the one of the earliest being 24th March where you took the photo of the spent/ empty egg casings) I think the fry should be around 5 days old (working on the fact that its the 29th today in Australia - boy different time zones are annoying). At this stage they are most likely still relying on their egg yolks but could be grazing on stuff that might get knocked into the house via water movement. And who really knows just what babies get up to in the deep dark recess of their first home. In the wild with the eggs hidden in hollow logs there is almost certianly something in the timber that the babies would first munch on. The babies I once raised from eggs in a suspended net had a lovely algea bloom over it and the babies seemed to start eating this quite quickly while the fish on the outside of the net cleaned thier side. Usually the father would have looked after these eggs but they kept getting knocked out of his prefered home so I stepped in to stop the guppies from picking at them. If the babies are around 5days old then in another 4-5 days you should expect them to make their first forays into the big wide unknown. When you see them out and about then make sure you supply the extra veges, wafers etc although they will probably have already had a great old time

grazing over any gravel, plants or ornamnets before you spot them.
