hello i was wondering when my albino and my normal BN will breed he hasnt came out of his cave in ages not even for food until i looked in and seen a white egg which is un fertilized or moulded i think but is had half see through shells around it like some have hatched im so happy but maybe none have survived is this possibly i cant wait how many fry do they usally have ahhhh

sorry this is so short im just so happy

does this mean they will breed monthly or what every it is lol

Congrats

Empty looking shell cases sounds like a hatching has taken place and the tiny babies will hide with Dad (usually) until they lose their egg yolk and look like miniture bristle noses without the bristles , then they will start foraging all over the tank make sure you keep up frequent feedings and the parents don't get to scoff the lot otherwise the babies will just starve. Live weed is always best for them to hide in and munch on, even plastic plants with a healthy growth of algea will be mowed. I always see my babies mowing the bog wood that is always in the tank and that is usually where I first see them - the males are too good at hiding the "nest". If you have other fish in the tank (even gupppies - talking from experience here) they will most likely eat the young fry. One time my BN's had such a large spawning that the eggs got knocked out of the "nest" and I put them all in a net breeding cage close to the filter outlet. The eggs all hatched and I ended up with over 100

once they had lost their egg yolks and had darkened up I then had to divide them all between my other tanks so they could all grow up without missing out on food or being stunted by having too many in the tank. Give them the room and they will grow quickly! As for possible numbers hatching it usually depends on the age and size of the parents and how experienced they are as well as the parents breeding condition - the more conditioned the more lilkely you will get a large spawning with heaps of healthy babies.
Congrats again and keep an eye on the tank the babies are so tiny they are easily over looked if you only glance in the tank and don't study all the possible places for the babies to be hiding or feeding - they blend in incredibly well to natural looking gravel and often its only when they move you'll spot them.
Ps If you do have babies this time around I wouldn't encourage the parents to breed again to soon it puts a fair amount of strain on them both, the female to produce good quality eggs and the male who often forgoes food to tend to them. Also you more than likely will end up with more babies than you have room for, I usually sell mine between 2.5-5cm or bigger depending on the local demand.

thanks i only have this tank atm but i also have a tank at my dads house but all the water paraments will prob be different i have corys enlders platys corys and assassin snails what am i going to do ahhh

i seen a couple more hatched eggs and a unhatched egg the morning u might be able to spot it

its on the cave floor on a bit of sand going in

Yep can see the empty egg cases, and what you think is an unhatched egg in the very front looks a bit like a newly hatched fry. Its a bit hard to tell from the pic but when you look in the tank next and if you see another single unhatched egg look closely and see if it has a thin little tail wiggling. The fry really do look odd, almost all egg sack with only a tiny and head and small tail.

hes brought them all in the cave i cant see in so i have to put the flash on my camera and i dont want to keep disturbing him do you think them will get eaten is there anyway i can keep them alive in this thank thanks

wow i can see them in the cave all i can see is albino atm and they are so small omg they will get munched ahhh

There is some chance that your fry could be eaten by other tank inhabitants. My adult sterbai finished off my first contradens spawn fast once they left the cave. Smaller sized corys are less of a threat. Pleco dad's will often try to keep the fry in the cave longer than normal when he knowss there are potential fry diners nearby.

They will spawn regularly once they get started and if you have only one tank, you can be overwhelmed pretty fast. Many folks contract MTS from having too many fry :)

im looking to setup annother tank for them hopefully but what size would be ideal ?? thanks

will corys endlers or guppies eat them there so small i didnt relise ha all albino is tht good???

what and when do i start feeding the babies there only like an eyelash size what do they eat and at what age ????

HELP

The dad should look after the babies until they have fully absorbed their yolks sacs. They will not eat until then. Once they do, they can pretty much eat the same things that bigger ones can, only much less of it. They will have gained a bunch of size by the time dad lets them out.

They all look albino initially

Once they lose their egg yolk, it generally takes a couple of days ( I think it may also depend on water temp) they will start looking for other food. After around ten days the babies should have their adult spotted marking. Sinking algea wafers are going to be the best bet for the babies once they are hunting around for food the trick is to give them enough time to get it without the endlers, platties, snails and cory's eating it all. There fore I would try make a couple of feeding stations even drop in some frozen tubifex worms to float around the surface and keep the platties and endlers amused and get some sinking wafers as close to the babies hang out as possible while making sure there are other wafers else where in the tank for the other fish. As long as you also have some live weed (even plastic weed coated in algea) near the main hang out the babies should start grazing on it in relative safety from hungery mouths. Once my babies reach the 1cm the Guppies generally don't show any interest in them and they start showing up all over the tank. Also some liquid fry probably wouldn't hurt them. I also give mine sinking shrimp pellets mostly because they break up pretty readily and lots of small peices will get blown all over the tank by the fishes movement and filtration. I have heard of people feeding fry hard boiled egg yolk but I think it's more likely to foul the water. A lettuce leaf (throughly washed - organic if possible) is also a good stater food for the babies and 1 large leaf can feed quite a few just don't let it turn to mush. Micro worms are also meant to be good as well as other micro organisms that often hitch a ride into tanks on live weed. Some however can be harmful and I suspect your endlers and platties will scoff any live food before anything else gets a look in. You could also try frozen blood worms which again all the fish will totally enjoy.

If you want to or need to take some babies around to your other tank it should be easy enough provided you take some of the larger ones with plenty of their own tank water. Then just gradually acclimatise the babies to the new tank as you would for any new fish. Taking some gravel, and weed (if you can spare it) from the original tank probably wouldn't hurt either especially if the other tank is not currently stocked with any fish. Test both lots of tank water any way if they are of similar setup the parameters may not be so different. Tank size wise I always go for bigger is better but it really depends on available funding and space. I have noticed once I am able to start selling off the larger babies the smaller ones quickly catch up to sellable size and so it goes until all the babies are gone and low and behold the cycle starts over again

probably that the fry are all bright yellow when they hatch its only when they get their adult colouration that you'll be sure which are albino. I really should get some pics of my next fry and photograph them through the stages of development.
