Do you have access to a library or can spare some change to purchase some books? Honestly, being in the process of setting up my first reef myself, I can't stress enough to do research and read a couple of books before you go heavily into investing in the equipment. I'm in the same stage, I have a system and I need to adapt it for SW use. Reading the books have been extremely helpful. It really helps with how I approach questions.

Right now, I'm reading Jeffrey Kurtz's "The simple guide to Mini-Reef Aquariums"... I've also read Michael Paletta's "The New Marine Aquarium". There are other books too.

It's also so much fun reading about the whole process. I love my books. Welcome to the salty side! LOLOL, I get to finally say it! :hyper:

Either that or read the basic guides we have, they are somewhere in the chit chat section.

If you have any questions feel free to ask but I may take some time getting back to you

u must b busy with your wifes hormones all upandown lol
r alredy a family man or r you new like i am to the reef lol

This will be the first. Hormones? What hormones! She has been a ray of sunshine for the last 9 months. LOL was that convincing?

But one thing fella, these journals are an educational tool, we use them to help others along with things, could you try to not use texty talk? Abbreviation and bad spelling I can deal with but single letter words confuse my tired, baby addled mind :)
Cheers mate.

 Our Liz is a real salty now :good: :kana:

As the Dark Lord himself said, start reading the journels, in particular the ones which are of a similar size to your own, most of the questions that pop up will sooner or later be questions that you want to ask or clarify, they are a rich source of info and often very funny as well :good:

AND  stop the text talk, or I'll have to send the boys round :fun:

its funny how quick a ray of sunshine can turn into a thunder cloud lol

i got some vrey fine white sand an gray gravel wid my tank, wood this be ok for a reef?
the gravel i dont want so its just the sand really, cud i mix it wid live sand?
an ive been looking on ebay at protein skimmers an im not sure which one to buy??

theres a V2 SKIM 300 COMPACT PROTEIN SKIMMER BNIB an it says that it is for tanks upto 300ltr
is this a good make an model an is it right for my tank, an can i put it in sump?

Going bigger is usually better but to big can cause problems as the water will be strippedto quick, this gets technical now so I willexpand later when I home.

Bin the sand and gravel if it is second hand as it will be manky.

its not that manky, its quite new, will it cause prolems?
an what skimmer do u recomend? theres so many, i want oone that can easly do the jod an put it in the sump?
an can i buy a sump or do i affter make one?

mate i would always use new sand in a new tank, nitrates can cause all sorts of problems and we are always trying to rid ourselves of them, adding them to a new tank seems counter productive.

skimmer wise if its in a sump you could go for the v2 200 but TBH i dont like TMC skimmers, i use hydor slimskims in all my tanks but they are not sump skimmers but rather low profile internal skimmers.

sumpwise you can buy them or make one (if your DIY handy) i dont use them myslef but a few of our guys can help you set one up but i would say that as its your first go maybe you should stick to a basic set up :)
