My First Planted Tank (pics)

Very neat and tidy but the background curtain thing is really really distracting!

Is there a certain type of paint which I can use to paint it black?

I agree that the curtain is distracting. You could just buy a black background sheet froom your LFS or some people decide to paint it black with some sort of matt acrylic paint. Just remember with the paint option that there is 'no going back' as to speak, well not easily anyway.

i would say you may need alot more plants...like stems and fast growers to keep algae away..dan

looks like you need abit more sand there, it looks a bit shallow, plants lke the swords will need alot of depths for roots to grow, otherwise it stunted and dies off

Black vinyl from a sign shop, get it cut to size and ask them to use premask or application tape, it will make it easier for you to apply. Basically lay the sheet on the back with the paper side facing the glass, use masking tape to make a hinge of about 8 inches. Peel back the paper evenly to the hinge and cut the paper off. Hold the exposed material off the glass (or have a friend hold it up and use a squeegee in long even strokes working the material from the hinge until that flap is all on. Then hold the other non applied end off the glass and slowly peel the paper back and start squeegeeing from the hinge until its all applied.

It looks as good as painted, and has no fumes, and can be done while the tank is running.
That is vinyl on this tank
