I just discovered that ich is spreading in my son's tank. About half of the neon tetras are infected. P@H is still open, should I quickly nip down and get the Anti White Spot treatment? What else can I do? Add salt and if yes how much? Temperature how high?

Also, there are shrimps in that tank. What do I do with them? Will they be ok with the treatment or should I put them in another tank and hope they won't have the parasite yet?

Right, as no replies I googled loads and went ahead.

Got interpet anti white spot. Put half the recommended dose in the tank as it is a neon tetra and shrimp tank and apparently too much can harm them. Ingredients should be safe for shrimps after searching on google (please tell me they will be ok).

My questions now:

How often do I dose? Daily? And should I stick to half the dose or go to the normal full dose?

Do I still do regular water changes? Last one was done on Sunday.

How do I store the carbon of the filter? I took it out as instructed and just left it in a bowl with tank water. Do I get new ones for after treatment? No clue about those things.

I would greatly appreciate some help. Off to bed now *yawn* but hopefully someone can answer my questions soon so I can safely treat ich and have happy fish again :)

when my tropicals get ick i use Mardel Coppersafe for ick, velvet and other parasites. it works wonders and the ick was cleared up in 3 days!! the dosage depends on the tank size and the meds. you can store the filter cartridge in tank water or discard it and get a new one once the ick is all gone and you have done a 10-25% water change. i recommend getting a new one because it is much safer :) i didnt do a water change while giving meds.

the shrimps should be fine but if you do decide to get Mardel i strongly suggest taking the shrimps out because it is deadly to crustaceans  you can keep the temp the same.

hope i helped!

Without wanting to sound bold or harsh, if you got all that info from Googling loads then you may find it easier to continue doing it and get general answers to your questions...any issues you may encounter in your treatment can easily be discussed on here, but to simply expect full explanations to each and every one of your questions seems a little lazy.
I believe there is a section on commonly asked questions within the forums themselves somewhere.
All the best with it, i hope you get the results you are looking for.

Terry.

hmm i know you arent trying to be harsh but i know i sometimes look for long answers on here because it is easier to ask someone who knows then to google it and get 100 wrong answers. i try do goolge before posting but some questions are not answered no matter how many links you go on. right now i am trying to find out plant info and no one it replying and i am getting quite frustrated but that doesnt mean i have no right to post again, you know? i am just trying to make a point with out seeming like i am frustrated with you ;)

I know what you mean, some questions are very hard to find the answer to if you have never done such things before...but i could reasonably Google general answers to those 6 questions above within a very reasonable time. It seemed the OP was also a little annoyed at not having immediate answers to their original questions also, probably not realising the answers you get on here are alot more helpful if you come armed with the basic answers to what you may want to know.

Terry, yes I could google everything. BUT, I really trust this forum. On google I could end up with many different answers and be even more unsure. I know that there are many people on this forum here who actually know what they are talking about and I'd rather trust someone from here than a random google. It's because I like you lot! And what would be the point of such a good forum, if we could all google things? It's about helping each other out with good knowledge, building friendships and simply enjoying fishkeeping together.

There are two hours between my posts. I had to go and get some treatment before the shops closed. Hence I googled to see if the Interpet was safe and thankfully after buying the bottle and then googling the ingredients I found out they would be ok with my shrimps. I still had questions though and wanted answers from trustable members here.

Comocrayfish, thanks for your answers. I will get new carbon for after the treatment and as I changed the water last Sunday I should hopefully be ok not changing it this Sunday but leave it for another week. I never had an illness in a tank and I was just a little lost and panicking last night. Fish seem fine this morning, just hoping now that half dose treatment works, otherwise I will probably do another week with full dose.

I really care about my fish, and I was really in a panic as I don't want to lose any of my son's 'neenaas', they are his tetras. He loves them and I will do my best to keep them alive and happy and healthy. Hopefully I can be back with good news soon :)

Totally agree with you Salam there is a lot of very knowledgable people here and you could google almost anything and get some sort of answer the problem being you get a lot of conflicting answers and you have to spend ages trolling through them, even then you are still not sure if you have the correct info.
Personally I would leave the water change sunday and continue what you are doing good luck

Fair enough, i was only making a point and honestly not wanting to sound out of order. Those were my personal views and not the ones of this forum collectively.
Best of luck with it, keep us updated :good:

Maybe the forum should just get shut down then, what with google and all....

This is why I joined in the first place. I started fishkeeping the bad way - you know get a tank, no cycling (as advised by the LFS  ) add fish after a week - fish died shortly after. Google confused the heck out of me, as there are so many conflicting answers to questions. And reading for many hours is sometimes not possible as I have a family and a job. Thankfully I found this forum which I think is very reliable. :good: Plus I 'met' some very nice people here, one of them is AlmostAwesome *waves*. She seems to be on almost every post and I like reading and seeing what they are up to *stalkerface* :D

Taffy, I tried finding the answer to the carbon for example, but couldn't find it. I was tired. I hadn't eaten, my son was a git on that day. I just wanted to know what to do and relax for a moment in my life, how dare I, eh?

Whatever... i just don't see the point in getting annoyed when your questions are not answered straight away, even if you do decide to include a post full of questions. My opinion and i'm entitled to it.

I recently had to treat ich and used the interpet medcine that your using and I just followed the instructions on the bottle which worked fine! I did a water change BEFORE adding treatment, added 2nd dose on day 4th day (I think thats what it says on the box) and job done. I personally would just store the carbon in a mesh bag until you have completed the treatment and then put it back in but I wouldn't be in a rush to put it back in.
