One of my zebra danios died last night. I dont know what was wrong with him but he was just sitting on the bottom of the tank, could tell something was wrong, woke up this morning and he was dead. He hasnt been right since i brought him. :-(

im no expert but how are the water levels?

sitting on the bottom usually indicated high nitrate (i think)

was he in a group of at least 5 other danios? they are meant to be kept in a group of at least 6 as they are a very social fish

Including him there were 6 altogether.
pH is 7.4, Ammonia is 0, Nitrate is 10, and Nitrite is 0.
All the others are fine, it was just him that seemed ill.

:-(

What are the symptoms of this?
He looked healthy, just like the others, there seemed to be nothing physically wrong with him, but he didnt swim with the others he just sat on the bottom and didnt even come up to feed.
Does anyone know what was wrong with my poor little fish?

sounds like he had dropsy to me, me fish got it after i had them 3 days, really there is nothing you can do. But there are meds for it. Look at this link and see if it is this dropsy

It could really be anything internally, I wouldn't blame yourself as your water is fine, at least for Danios. If you can't see anything, you can't really treat, although a dose of EHSA 2000 in your tank may help, it's very weak and treats most illnesses.

I had 1 neon die a couple of months ago for no apparent reason, the rest have been fine since then.

Anyone else have any ideas about what might have been wrong with Sid?

I'm kind of worried about my other fish, i dont want them getting poorly too.
They all seem fine at the moment though, and are showing no signs of being ill.

it could have been anything. don't just add meds for no apparent reason; that just builds up resistant disease vectors --> very bad.

perhaps it was just old age. danios typically only live 2~3 years anyways.

keep an eye for any of your fish to display similar symptoms. other than that, don't fix what's not broken.

It seems that he was sick.

Doing the best you can with water and knowing how to detect and treat diseases are important. However, it is inevitable that you will loose fish. This can happen for no apparent reason sometimes. Just like with people, sometimes fish just die for no reason that you can determine. Just part of life.
