My First Cichlids

I just got my first pair of cichilds. My green severum Well I hope I have a male and a female but I think it's too soon to tell... So we'll wait and see.

its impossible to tell the sex of a severum until its breeding
and i see you have them in a 29 gal,is that justquarintine or are they goping to be upgraded?the minimum tank size is 55gal

(note: the original poster is my girlfriend. The 29 Gal they are in and the 125 they are scheduled to transfer into are both my tanks. )

im not sure what age but theyre knowen to be the shlowest growing cichlids out there

Unless you have one of the rarer or line-bred vaireties, sexing sevs is fairly easy, And 6+" in a year is decent growth and can be expected under good conditions. Compared to many of the geo's, sevs grow like balloons on an air pump.

You've got that right! I had 2 sevs but they had to be returned (long story) and ever since, I wanted another. I was so happy when I got my new baby They are like aquatic puppy dogs

I was just watching them eat some frozen food and they are still very shy... I'm sure it doesn't help to have my big head pressed up against the tank, bu they are coming out of hiding a tiny bit more today. They are both eating and other than being shy they seem happy.

I don't quite agree with this if you look carefully you should see a difference between the anal fins of the male and female (the male's anal fin tappers all the way to the end of the tail while the female's anal fin stops part way through the tail) if you dont see a difference between your severums' tails then you probally have a same sex pair.
