Just brought home my first betta :)
I chose him as he was one of the more active bettas they had and he was eagerly flaring at a bright red betta next door to him :D

I thought I would try him out in my main tank first of all as its got plenty of room to swim around in. I have a 1 Gallon to hand if he causes any trouble though.

My only concerns over keeping him in the main tank is if he takes a disliking to the lone orange guppie but hes not been bothered by him so far (5 hours) so I think he will be fine.

Hes already marked out his territory, a large leafy plant and has his eye on the corydoras cave. Ive had to add some extra cover for the corys to nip under when the betta takes a wander through their cave the little blighter

Incase I have to move him to the 1Gallon will a temperature of 23 degrees be sufficient ? Ive had the 1G set up for a week now and it is unheated but has maintiained a 23 egree temperature.

This is the best picture ive got of him so far, hes not interested in flaring at his reflection in a mirror

Hi Rich T :)

Congratulations on getting your betta!

I keep mine in the cory tanks and find that the bettas find the corys fascinating. It's not unusual to see them watching and following the corys around. Sometimes when I look for a betta I find him in the cory cave with corys all around him. It's so cute! :D

Ok im just experiencing my first problem :(

So far ive tried Hikari floating betta pellets and some unbranded sinking pellets
Trouble is all of the other fish have taken a liking to them so the betta is seeing none of the food :(

I know he may not want to eat for a while but how do you guys get round this problem when keeping bettas with other fish ?

Congratulations on your new Betta! It's a really nice looking betta too.

About the food thing, try feeding him so normal tropical flakes. Some bettas like that more than the Hikari pellets.

He should be able to get to the food when he feels braver.

Mine will Take on the 4" Gold Gourami for food and the Parrot.

Regards to Food, Pellets work best as they like to pounce on their Food IME, but each to his own.

You could try flakes aswell - Nutrafin Make a Nice Betta Flake food with Bloodworm and Daphnia in it aswell.

hey! congrats on the new betta!! he should be good with the corys since thats a common tank mate! in my opinion if he had a problem with them he would have already done something but hey! who knows! good luck with him! and hes soo cute!

congrats on the betta! i'm sure u'll find them to be great :D

As for the eating thing, dont' worry :) if it' sonly been a few days, it's normal for him not to eat so much. Slowly he'll stop being shy adn turn into a pig :D
