hey, bought two red claw crabs today, and the fish shop man caught a betta at the same time - free of charge!

anyway, as i don't know anything about betta behaviour, he's barely just floating in the top leaf of one of my broad leaved plants near the surface, i'm hoping he's just stressed and will be ok tomorrow?

second point - why was he keeping crabs with bettas anyway!!

He's probably just stressed and will settle in fine but it depends on your water temperature and everything. Speaking of water temperature do you have a heater and if you have a filter you may want to see if it has a lowest setting or if it doesnt you may just want to take it out because bettas fins are so heavy, they current fromt the filter makes it hard for them to swim and will stress them out. The guy may have been keeping crabs with bettas because the red claw crabs arent fast enough to catch most fish so he probably thought it would be ok, and it should be unless your betta is sick and just stays on the bottum then a crab may be able to get to it.

The red crabs will die if they are kept underwater all the time... they need tanks with land mass on to climb on... :)

ooh p.s the crabs might claw at the betta and kill and eat him :(

I doubt the crab could do all that to a betta, maybe nip at his fins or injure him but not kill him and eat him.
