The MA at Morden I think has temporarily closed due to issues with the landlord. I got my betta two or three weeks ago from MA in Ashtead - he's thriving but the other two they had looked quite poor. The MA at Guildford (actually East Horsely, in the garden centre) is my preferred option for livestock - much better range and display tanks - it's just harder for me to get to as I don't drive. If you have transport, I'd give them a ring and see if they have quite a few bettas in, then go along and pick one.

RIP Jimmy :(

Well, no luck for me today.  Decided to go to Pets at Home and ended up taking the refund instead.  They couldn't find the bettas... they said they kept them in the betta tanks or other tanks... and had sold all the ones in the betta tanks and couldn't find where they put the others!  :/  Then the lady said "oh well we get more in stock Wednesday you can come back then."  I thought that was a bad policy and maybe something that contributed to mine doing so badly.

SO... I am thinking if i want a betta I will have to consider ordering one online as I don't think I want to try my Pets at Home if they are willing to sell their fish the day they get them.

I'm in MA Guildford now (or at least the restaurant in the garden centre!) and the have 10 or so male bettas, most look decently healthy and some are really striking :)

If you don't have transport, it's a 30 minute walk across footpaths from Horsely train station if that's any good? Or there's a bus from Leatherhead once an hour Mon-Sat

I could take the train there, I think the train goes there anyway.  We have a car but my husband takes it to work so most of the time I have to bus or take a train.  I'll have to think about it.  This week is half term so the kids are home... I prefer not to take them fish shopping!  LOL

If you do decide to go, and by train, give me a shout if you want and I can send you a map of the paths :)

So sorry about Jimmy. I hope you consider giving bettas another try. :)

I say you get another! They're such loving fish and after awhile will bond with you like a dog, I know it's not the best thing but now whenever I put my hand into the tank to adjust an ornament or something my betta will weave in and out of my fingers it's so cute.
