Hi there,

He is a little tatty at the moment, but I'd rather rescue such beauties from LFS than buy from breeders if at all possible - as I walked into the LFS - actually looking for some ottos for my other tank, I saw and was amazed to find that there was a Halfmoon in exactly the colours that I had been looking - even more amazing was the fact the had bought them in by accident and didn't even know that such things existed - the lady said "I thought that siamese fighters were either blue or red"

I floated the bag for a good 10 minutes and then it was time to let my first betta into his new world. Woah! I didn't just how inquisitive these guys were, I expected him to just sit in a corner for a good few days until he became used to his environment, but oh no - hes already checked out every inch of his new home - and is already taking food! (I'm going to Pets at Home to get some beta food!)

Hi, well done for the rescue and good luck :good:

10 galloner, a great size for a lone betta. Keep up the daily water changes until cycled. Is it filtered?

He is lovely but he is superdelta not halfmoon. Just thought I'd let you know that, i'm sure it won't make any difference to how much you love him already

No - I saw some colours like these on a breeders site, and knew instantly that these were the colours I wanted - Thanks for letting me know - and it makes no difference! It's the colours that I wanted for my first one.

Yeah the tank is filtered :) I was wondering whether or not to do a mini drop each day of the tank - I've had some darnios in there whilst the tank was cycling, whcih have now moved house back to the community tank.

Mini drop? that's a new one on me. If you mean a partial water change then yes it would. How long were the Danios in the tank before being removed for the betta? Are you testing the water and if so what are the results?

Yeah sorry I mean partial change, just what I've always called it. - the Darnios have been in there for a good week or so, and before that the tank had been cycling with no fish for 3 weeks.

No I've not tested the water - when I'm at Pets at home I will look at some testing kits.

At the moment I have a filter/air pump which is slightly breaking the water at one corner, I'm aware that some betas tolerate this, what signs should I look if he's intolerant of the air?

Also I find it amusing to watch him staring out the odd snails that are in the tank - he's not attempted to eat any yet, but just wondered if it was usual for them to eat snails?

Hey, I was going to point that out as he is very similar to my Redbull (albeit, some healing to do first!) but being a Betta novice it was far from me to make an a**e of myself

Nice pic (good of you to rescue such a pretty fish)

The API Freshwater Master kit for about £20 is favoured on this forum.

It's not the air its strong currents that they do not like. Providing he is not being pushed around by it it will be ok. Add some real plants (or silk) to brake the current is a good idea (plastic ones are a bit sharp for his fins).
If the filter is not cycled (and it wont be yet) then water changes are a must. Water testing must be your priority now

Yeh, you best keep up with the water tests and changes. dont want nothing to go wrong now

watch he doesnt try to eat small snails, one of mine died after deciding he liked a snail! Try to get the hikari betta pellets they love those....nice find by the way! :good: :good:

Thanks for that, will get a water testing kit when I'm at pets at home - hoping to catch it open tonight, if not tomorrow morning.

Here's a pic of the tank - I've already got live plants in there some which have been in for a good 5 weeks - Whilst floating the new beta some got knocked about and are floating, but will sort that in a while - just want him to get a little used to his place first.

Doresy

I've checked out RedBull on one of your posts! he's awesome, hopefully my one will look as smart as him when he has healed some! - just gotta get this water testing kit now to make sure he has the best chance he can!

I noticed you have sand and not gravel!

liz2

Maybe I ought to get the snails out and chuck them in the community tank for the clown loaches!

He is lovely, yorkshiretyker, great find at lfs   My lfs only has blue and reds VT.Get that testing kit asap. I`m using API and its great. Gravel is ok, but lot of us using sand `couse its easier to keep it clean.
